Request for Proposals Website redesign for The ArQuives The ArQuives (formally the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives) acquires, preserves, protects and gives public access to information related to the LGBTQ2+ experience in Canada. Our goal is to be a significant resource and catalyst for those who strive for a future world where LGBTQ2+ people are accepted, valued, and celebrated. Founded in 1973, The ArQuives is the largest LGBTQ2+ independent archive in the world and is recognized globally as a significant resource for LGBTQ2+ documentary heritage. Archival users from across Canada and around the world visit The ArQuives to conduct research for academic projects, journalistic work, documentary filmmaking and other creative productions. The ArQuives also offers remote services to hundreds of researchers who are unable to visit the archives in person. Our collection includes personal and organizational records, vertical files, a photographic collection (20,000 plus), moving images, posters, audiotapes, cartographic and architectural plans, works of art, textiles, and artifacts (including t-shirts, buttons, matchbooks and banners). The LGBTQ2+ periodicals collection is the largest in the world (10,000 plus titles). As trusted steward of vast holdings, The ArQuives has developed outreach programs that connect the public with the evidence needed to build a strong sense of identity and shared heritage for LGBTQ2+ Canadians. This includes Pride Walk, public lectures, class visits, conference presentations, tours of The ArQuives house and social media posts. We actively engage in partnering with other LGBTQ2+ agencies and archives to provide them with the research services and material content to support their management. We also provide valuable internship experience for undergraduate and graduate students to help foster the next generation of LGBTQ2+ historians and archivists. -

LGBT History Month 2016
Inner Temple Library LGBT History Month 2016 ‘The overall aim of LGBT History Month is to promote equality and diversity for the benefit of the public. This is done by: increasing the visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (“LGBT”) people, their history, lives and their experiences in the curriculum and culture of educational and other institutions, and the wider community; raising awareness and advancing education on matters affecting the LGBT community; working to make educational and other institutions safe spaces for all LGBT communities; and promoting the welfare of LGBT people, by ensuring that the education system recognises and enables LGBT people to achieve their full potential, so they contribute fully to society and lead fulfilled lives, thus benefiting society as a whole.’ Source: www.lgbthistorymonth.org.uk/about Legal Milestones ‘[A] wallchart has been produced by the Forum for Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Equality in Further and Higher Education and a group of trade unions in association with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) History Month. The aim has been to produce a resource to support those raising awareness of sexual orientation and gender identity equality and diversity. Centred on the United Kingdom, it highlights important legal milestones and identifies visible and significant contributions made by individuals, groups and particularly the labour movement.’ Source: www.lgbthistorymonth.org.uk/wallchart The wallchart is included in this leaflet, and we have created a timeline of important legal milestones. We have highlighted a selection of material held by the Inner Temple Library that could be used to read about these events in more detail. -

Applying Case-Based Reasoning to the Game of Bridge
Applying Case-Based Reasoning to the Game of Bridge Jacob Bellamy-McIntyre A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Postgraduate Diploma of Science in Computer Science, University of Auckland, 2008 1 Abstract Bridge provides a challenging problem for Artificial Intelligence research due to the game being stochastic (from the shuffling of the cards), hidden information (from not being able to see opponents cards) and from the general complexities of the game. Research into Computer Bridge is in its relative infancy, with the American Contract Bridge League holding the first World Championships Computer Bridge competition in 1997. With Bridge being a game that is more probabilistic and intuitive than Chess, it may be a better avenue of research for evaluating human-like intelligence. This paper will explore the possibility of applying Case Base Reasoning to the game of Bridge and will discuss the problems that arise from trying to do so, while comparing Case Base Reasoning to other techniques used in Artificial Intelligence. 2 Table of Contents 1.
