But in the next process, it will experience an accumulation or concentration so that at certain concentrations, it can cause the negative impact on the environment. The results from the previous research showed that the water hyacinth plant (Eichhornia crassipes) has the highest ability in reducing heavy metal pollution of mercury. The objective of this research is to analyze the ability of the water hyacinth plant (Eichhornia crassipes) in reducing the concentration of metal with variety of water flow rates. This research was conducted to test the water hyacinth plant (Eichhornia crassipes) in some discharge water sources which contaminated with mercury in the downstream of gold mining in Batang Hari River on a laboratory scale with a continuous flow. The result of this research revealed that the water hyacinth plant (Eichhornia crassipes) can lower the concentration of heavy metals Hg to the limit of water quality for irrigation. -

The research was held in January until November 2012 in Singkarak Lake West Sumatera Province, in foodplain, Pematang Lindung sub district Mendahara Ulu Regency East Tanjung Jabung, Jambi Province, and in foodplain Mentulik Regency Kampar Kiri Hilir Riau Province. The amount of sam- ples that was observed was 30 gonado of female fish Gonado Maturity Level III and IV in each research location. Indonesia (Republic of) Last updated: 31-01-2004 Location and area Indonesia is an island republic and largest nation of South East Asia, stretching across some 5,000 km and with a north-south spread of about 2,000 km. The republic shares the island of Borneo with Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam; Indonesian Borneo, equivalent to about 75 per cent of the island, is called Kalimantan. The western half of New Guinea is the Indonesian province of Irian Jaya (formerly West Irian); the eastern half is part of Papua New Guinea. The marine frontiers of Indonesia include the South China Sea, the Celebes Sea, and the Pacific Ocean to the north, and the Indian Ocean to the south and west. Indonesia has a land area of 1,904,443 km2. (Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia 2002). According to Geoanalytics (www.geoanalytics.com/bims/bims.htm) the land area of Indonesia comprises 1,919,663 km2. Topography Indonesia comprises 13,677 islands on both sides of the equator, 6,000 of which are inhabited. Kalimantan and Irian Jaya, together with Sumatra (also called Sumatera), Java (Jawa), and Celebes (Sulawesi) are the largest islands and, together with the insular provinces of Kalimantan and Irian Jaya, account for about 95 per cent of its land area. The smaller islands, including Madura, Timor, Lombok, Sumbawa, Flores, and Bali predominantly form part of island groups. The Moluccas (Maluku) and the Lesser Sunda Islands (Nusatenggara) are the largest island groups. The Java, Flores, and Banda seas divide the major islands of Indonesia into two unequal strings. Biodiversitas 20: 2368-2374. This study provided understanding of morphometric variation and diet composition of three species of mudskippers, i.e. Boleophthalmus boddarti, Periophthalmodon schlosseri, and Periophthalmus chrysospilos. The data obtained can be used for fish cultivation in the future. The relation of weight and length of species B. boddarti, P. schlosseri and P. chrysospilos had a correlation of 72.2%, 98.2%, and 94.5% , respectively with the value of b = 1.474, 3.189, and 2.271, respectively. This suggests that the growth patterns of B. boddarti and P. chrysospilos are allometrically negative, while P. schlosseri is allometrically positive. B. boddarti is classified as a herbivore, the main food of phytoplankton from Bacillariophyceae class with percentage 100%; 80% of Chlorophyceae; 95.6% of Cyanophyceae; 13.33% of Desmidiaceae; 13.33% of Euglenophyceae and 37.78% of Xanthophyceae. P. schlosseri is classified as carnivores, the main food is Uca sp. -

Edi Armanto Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University South Sumatra Indonesia Received: Desember 2016; Accepted: Maret 2018; Published: April 2018 DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.21107/agriekonomika.v7i1.2513 ABSTRACT The economic and regional development of Palembang has caused land conversion, which was originally as agricultural land and has been converted into non-agricultural activities. The research aimed to compare the typology of lebak swamps and potential rice production before and after the landfilling. Spatial data were obtained using Landsat imagery interpretation in 1987 and 2016. Attribute data was collected using questionnaires and sampling technique was done using disproportionate random sampling method. Typologies of lebak swamps consisted of lebak lebung, deep lebak, middle lebak, levee lebak, shallow lebak and dry land. After landfilling, dry land covers an area of 1,964 ha (72.73%), while the lebak swamp was decreased by approximately 736 ha (27.27%). Before landfilling, soil orders were found based on its dominance, namely Histosols, Entisols, Inceptisols and Gelisols. After landfilling, composition of soil order was dominated by Entisol, Inceptisol, Gelisols and Histosols. Before landfilling rice yields were produced about 3,240 tons of milled dry rice (MDR)/year, and rice production potency is now only about 506.25 tons of MDR/year. The Impact of Forest and Peatland Exploitation Towards Decreasing Biodiversity of Fishes in Rangau River, Riau-Indonesia
I J A B E R, Vol. 14, No. 14 (2016): 10343-10355 THE IMPACT OF FOREST AND PEATLAND EXPLOITATION TOWARDS DECREASING BIODIVERSITY OF FISHES IN RANGAU RIVER, RIAU-INDONESIA Yustina* Abstract: This survey study was periodically conducted in July, 6 times every year. There were 3 periods: 1st period (2002); 2nd period (2008) and 3rd period (2014). It sheds light on the impact of forest and peat land exploitation on decreasing biodiversity of fishes in Rangau River, Riau- Indonesia. Using some catching tools such as landing net, fishing trap, fishnet stocking and fishing rod. The sampling activity was administered at eight stations which were conducted by applying “catch per unit effort technique” in primary time: 19.30-07.30, for 3 repetitions for each fish net measurement within 30 minutes at every station, at position or continuously casting. The sampled fish were selected which were relatively in minor size but had represent their features and species. The fish were labelled and were preserved with 40% formalin. The determination and identification of fish were conducted at laboratory. Secondary data was collected by mean of interviewing the local fishermen about the surrounding environment condition of Rangau river. Data analysis consisted of biodiversity data, biodiversity index and fish existence frequency. The finding in 1st period, in 2002, total caught fish were 60 species: 36 genera and 17 families. In 2nd period in 2008, total caught fish were 38 species which consist of 30 genera and 16 families. In 3rd period, in 2014, there were 23 of fish species were found comprising 17 genera, 12 families. -
