Please be aware the Elections Team will be available on Friday 9 July, Monday 12 July, Wednesday 14 July and Friday 16 July at Mercury House, Station Road, Richmond DL10 4JE to accept delivery of nomination papers by appointment only. Please contact the Election Team on 01748 901018 or email: [email protected] to make an appointment to deliver the nomination papers. It may take 15-30 minutes to process the nomination paper. The following papers must be delivered by hand and completed by all candidates: 1a: Nomination paper (please see note on GDPR overleaf) 1b: Home address form 1c: Candidate’s consent to nomination The following papers can be delivered by hand or by post: If you are standing as a party candidate you must produce a certificate from the “Nominating Officer” of the party allowing your nomination. The certificate should include the description to be used on the ballot paper. 2: Certificate of authorisation 3: Request for a party emblem Ensure that where signatures are required, you submit the original signed version of each completed paper. Documents without original signatures cannot be accepted. Note: The use of tippex/correction fluid is strictly prohibited and any form (including the nomination paper) will be rejected if tippex/correction fluid has been used. p.1/3 General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Data protection legislation applies to the processing of all personal data. Please contact the Information Commissioner's Office for further information about how the legislation affects you. When collecting subscriber information, you should point out what the information will be used for, and how personal data will be processed and kept secure. The lawful basis to collect the information in these forms is that it is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest and exercise of official authority as set out in the Representation of the People Act 1983 and associated regulations. You should also explain that the information will be shared with the Returning Officer. For further information on data protection and data processing, you should refer to the Returning Officer’s privacy notice on our website. Register of Electors Once you officially become a candidate you are entitled to receive a free copy of the electoral register of the parish or parish ward where you intend to stand. The electoral register contains people’s personal data and so its use is very carefully controlled. As a candidate you can use them to: • Complete your nomination form • Help you campaign • Check that donations are permissible You must not release to any person any details that appear only in the electoral register and not on the open register which is available for general sale. You must not use the electoral register for any other purpose not listed above. If you have supplied your copy of the electoral register to campaign workers, they must also comply with the requirements above. You must not make copies of the Register. Three update lists to the electoral registers are published in the lead-up to the poll, including the list of newly registered electors when it is published five working days before the poll You must ensure that you keep the electoral register secure. Once you no longer need the register for any electoral purpose, you should securely destroy any copies supplied to you as a candidate in accordance with the Information Commissioner’s guidelines. Parish candidates will be supplied with a Register Request form to be completed and returned before the electoral register will be provided (a signed copy can be emailed to [email protected]. However, the parish/town clerk have a copy of the Electoral Register and they may be able to assist you with the Electoral number of your subscribers. Their guides contains details of the election processes and lays out rules on how to conduct your campaign. It explains what you can and cannot do. Failure to follow these rules could result in you committing electoral fraud or breaching electoral law. When an electoral offence has been committed, pleading ignorance of the law is not a valid defence. The police are the relevant body for investigation and/or prosecution of any election offence and any breach should be referred to them. More than 1000 respondents gave their views on issues ranging from Council services to public events and car parking; the responses, including more than 5000 written comments, were analysed, prioritised and published in May 2018 as the Leyburn Town Plan. With reference to Richmondshire District Council’s current Local Plan calling for a large number of new houses to be built in and around Leyburn the survey solicited views on the type and tenure of houses in any new developments.

    1 Cause Papers in the Diocesan Courts of the Archbishopric of York, 1300–1858 Editing and Standardisation in the Cause Papers Database The Cause Papers project provided an on-line searchable catalogue of more than 13,000 cause papers relating to cases heard between 1300 and 1858 in the Church Courts of the diocese of York, the original records for which are held at the Borthwick Institute for Archives at the University of York. The project aimed to pioneer a new standard of excellence in data accuracy and standardization. Cataloguing such a large and varied number of records posed numerous challenges in these areas, including the problem of how to incorporate spelling and language variations of surname and place names. The following document provides information on the methods used by the project team in compiling, editing and standardizing the data. Newsletter of the ‘Jervaulx’ parish - Middleham with Coverdale, East Witton & Thornton Steward Letter from the rectory A spin off from the Black Lives Matter campaign is the conversation that has been sparked about the place of statues in our society. Whatever your point of view is the one thing that unites the different points of view is the strength of feeling that these monuments stir in us. In the course of the conversation I haven’t heard anyone express an opinion along the lines of, it’s only metal and stone, what is all the fuss about? What we can’t get away from is that these statues and monuments have been invested with meaning beyond the stone or metal that they have been fashioned from. The same is true for flags. We have seen images on our TV screens of people burning flags of their enemies. Why? It’s just a piece of cloth. But the cloth has been invested with meaning. The same is now true of football shirts! Sport clothing manufacturer, Umbro, has recently had to apologise for making a new kit for Irish club Linfield in colours very similar to that used by the Ulster Volunteer Force. A 10 pence piece and a 50 pence piece are a very similar size and made of the same metal but one is five times more valuable because of the meaning we have attached to it! People of faith understand this completely.

    Reported Road Casualties in North Yorkshire: Annual Report 2014 Richmondshire District (Area 1) Richmondshire district in brief Four people, all of whom were adults, were killed on Richmondshire’s roads during 2014 against 2, both adults, in 2013. The 4 fatalities in 2014 were 2 car occupants (a driver and passenger), a powered two wheeler (PTW) rider and a pedestrian. The number of people killed or seriously injured (KSI) reduced slightly from 56 in 2013 to 53 in 2014. In terms of road user groups, the number of KSI has increased amongst car occupants (+13) and pedal cyclists (+2) and reduced amongst PTW (-12), pedestrians (-2) and other vehicle types (- 4). The total number of casualties of all severities in road collisions reported to the police in 2014 was 254, up 17% on 2013 (217). The increase is reflected by the car road user group which saw a 21% increase in casualties in 2014, pedal cyclists by 62% and the other vehicle types by 55%. However, other groups have recorded a decrease; pedestrians by 31% and powered two wheelers a 19%. The small numbers involved in District level analysis make percentage changes appear alarmingly large. These fluctuations are all within the normal range of change from year to year, except for cyclist casualties where the increase is statistically significant, reflecting the similar rise in most other districts across the county. Further analysis has been undertaken into this – see section at the end of this annual report The reported number of child KSI casualties (aged 0-15) Child KSI is up from 2 in 2013 to 4 in 2014.

From the Vicarage My Dear Friends ‘Beware, keep alert; for you do not know when the time will come.’ Mark 13:33 You will get to know that Advent is my favourite time of year – I love the anticipation and the hope that this season brings. I also love the advent hymns and readings. When I was at teacher training college in Lincoln we always held an Advent Carol Service in the Cathedral and that is one of those memories that I have that is filled with warm memories – singing beautiful music and looking forward to the Christmas activities ahead. Our readings today set us on this journey and I think we need it more than ever this year, a year when we seem to have been waiting constantly – for the infections to go down, for the vaccine to come. What I encourage you all to do is use this experience to focus on the real meaning of Christmas the incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ and keep in mind the great advent hymn – ‘O Come, O Come, Emmanuel’.
