Richard de Emeldon and Robert de Tughale were in the first instance appointed to assess and levy this fifteenth and tenth for payment at the Exchequer on the morrow of the Purification and the morrow of Trinity last, and afterwards for certain causes the king thought fit to respite the assessment and levy in the county until Midsummer, but hitherto it has been impossible to do anything herein first because of the war of Scotland, the frequent attacks by the enemy in those parts and other hindrances of divers kinds and afterwards by reason of the death of the said Richard. Inspeximus, at the request of Henry de Edeuestowe, king's clerk, canon Clarendon. of the church of St. Mary, Southwell, of the record and process of a cause in the court of Kind'O s Bench at Westminster in Easter Term, 5 Edward III.,' roll 115, between the king and the chapter of the church of St. Mary, Southwell, touching liberties of the chapter and the canons, whereby it was found that the chapter and all the prebendaries of the church have each time out of mind used to have view of frankpledge and all that pertains thereto of the men and tenants in their fees, twice a year, that Robert de Wodehous, prebendary of Northwell, Robert de Nothigliam, prebendary of Oxton and Crophiill, Lambert de Trikyngham, prebendary of Halghton, Henry de Edenestowe, prebendary of Oxton and Crophull, Robert de Bridelyngton, prebendary of Woodburgh, and their predecessors in the prebends, have each time out of mind used to have in their land the liberty called ' wayf,5 and that the prebendary of Halghton has time out of mind used to have the liberty called * stray' in his manor of Halghton. MEMBRANE 7. Nov. 6. Iiispearimus and confirmation of an agreement made 9 October, 1333, to end Cbilton. a question which has arisen between the abbot and convent of Robcrtsbridge of the Cistercian order, claiming to hold the prebend of Salhurst, with the church of Muudefeld a dependent of the prebend, in the king's free chapel in Hastings Castle as having been appropriated to them of the one part, and the dean, or keeper, and chapter of the said chapel of the other part, that the abbot and convent shall retain the said prebend and church undisturbed, that the abbot and his successors shall be admitted as canon thereof, with a stall in the choir and a place in the chapter of the free chapel, and all rights which other non-resident prebendaries have, that each abbot, on his installation to the prebend, shall swear obedience to the dean, or keeper, and chapter in all lawful matters and that he shall find a fit vicar, a secular priest, to serve the said prebend, every such vicar to be presented by the abbot to the dean and chapter for examination and admission by them. Renewal to the abbot and convent of the licence, already granted by the king, but since impeached before the king and council in Chancery because there was no mention of the prebend therein, for them to appropriate the prebend of Salhirst and the churches of Salhirst, Odymere and Mundefeld, which they acquired from William de Echingham in part satisfaction of the 100/. of land and rent which, in consideration of great loss of lands in the marshes of Wynchelse, Rye and Prornhull swallowed up by the sea, they had the late king's licence to acquire, and grant that the abbot shall be admitted into the said free chapel as canon.
