Magnus III, King of Norway, was also known as King of Mann and the Isles between 1099 and 1103. In 1266, the island became part of Scotland and came under the feudal lordship of the English Crown in 1399. It never became part of the Kingdom of Great Britain or its successor the United Kingdom, retaining its status as an internally self-governing Crown dependency. http://iominternationalchess.com/ For a small country, sport in the Isle of Man plays an important part in making the island known to the wider world. The Loudon-Clear Guide To… RSAC Scottish Rally
The Loudon-clear guide to… RSAC Scottish Rally Officially, Saturday is the RSAC Scottish Rally. But to you, me, and the wider world of British rallying, it’s The Scottish. It’s this country’s biggest rally and one no summer would be complete without. The Scottish has been running since 1961 and the list of winners is a real who’s who of world rallying. All three of the rallying McRaes: Jimmy, Colin and Alister won it, as did M-Sport World Rally Team boss Malcolm Wilson. And the Finns have had fair success north of Hadrian’s Wall too; Ari Vatanen, Hannu Mikkola, Pentti Airikkala, Simo Lampinen, Mikael Sundstrom and Tapio Laukkanen all took at least one win. Tommi Makinen might have four world titles, but he’s only for an F2 win on the Scottish… The event has evolved down the years and it’s no longer the race up and down the land it once was, but a Dumfries base still offers access to some of the world’s most wonderful woods. Stages like Twiglees and Castle O’er are part of British rallying legend and it’s fantastic to see the best of the British Rally Championship lining up there on Saturday morning. As you’d expect, there’s a bit of a family connection with the Scottish: my father (Fergus Loudon) scored his best result on this rally when he co-drove John Gray to 11th overall in a Group A Ford Sierra Cosworth in 1990. They finished just one place behind a certain Jimmy McRae, taking the award for top privateer crew. -

The development of the National Institutes System Inter- governmental Agreement (NISIA) and the Tasmanian Gov- ernment’s commitment to be a signatory to this agreement provided the opportunity for the TIS Board of Management to review its future role, purpose and function. THE FRENCH CONNECTION Houghton CC and Le Tour …………..The Missing Links………………And More(Useless Information)
THE FRENCH CONNECTION Houghton CC and Le Tour …………..the missing links………………and more(useless information). In this historic year of the 2014 TdF Grand Depart taking place right here in the North of England, The Tootler has collected together a few interesting facts associating our great club with the worlds greatest bike race and some of the heroic riders who make the connection; roughly, possibly.Admittedly they are loose connections but there are worse things than being loosely connected so taking the advice of Ernest Hemingway to “write drunk, edit sober”, in this late night conceived and rambling compilation Tootler will attempt to connect Houghton CC, the late great Chis, the Vaux Grand Prix road race and the Tour de France. Firstly some relevant background information. For the benefit of recent members (and those under sixty five) the great Chis was a Houghton grammar school boy called Peter Chisman who joined the club in 1954 and who, apart from a wonderful career as an amateur and a professional also inspired hundreds of kids to take up bike racing. In the north east, at least in bike racing terms, the ninteen sixties and seventies were the belle epoque, the beautiful era, a golden time. Friday night at the clubrooms would be packed. There was a separate time trial and road racing notice board. The time trialling notices, race details and start times would be displayed on the RTTC notice board; and the BCF notice board would detail all road races, entrants, times, meeting points etc for those members racing on the road that weekend. -
Quinton Motor Club Ltd
Quinton Motor Club Ltd Forewo rd This publication is the result of over two years of investigative research and subsequent communication with many past members of Quinton Motor Club. No formal record of the Club ’s history or its activities existed before this task was under taken. I would particularly like to acknowledge the involvement of the following: Mike & Hilary Stratton , who were the driving force behind the w hole project and have spent countless hours in research and communication with past members , far and wide, a s well as many long journeys from their home in Devon to meet with the rest of us in the Midlands. The other members of the organising committee for the fiftieth anniversary celebrations for their hospitality at meetings, contribution of ideas, research fo r memorabilia , general good humour and enthusiasm that this milestone should be fittingly celebrated (in alphabetical order): Ray Barlow, Susan Butcher, Mike Harris, Nick Jones & Graham Towns hend. This publication has only been made possible by people tur ning out cupboards, garages and lofts to unearth long forgotten gems regarding the Club and its history. Foremost in this is Mike Adams, who has been the major source of information in that he has not thrown ANYTHING away sinc e he joined the Club in the mi d -1970s. Three big cardboard boxes arrived at my house one day in the early Spring of 2008, Ginny was not hap py when they were returned just over a year later, she thought she had seen the last of them..!! Others, not on the organising committee, that h ave unearthed memorabilia are (in alphabetical order): Peter Bayliss, John Davi s, Steve Eagle, Peter Gray , Neil Henderson and finally Dave Bullock who attended the first meeting of the Club and whose recollections of the early years has enabled me to piece together the scant infor mation that still exists from fifty years ago..!! We all hope you enjoy this publication and that its contents makes you smile and brings back happy memories of your time in Quinton Motor Club . -
