With the inforced break due to COVID we are delighted to welcome some of the most prestigious champonships across the UK to this years event. For the 34th consecutive year of running we are a round a BTRDA± Championship, and in that time we have won the coveted Bill Turner Trophy for best event in 1995, 2005, 2010, 2012, 2016 and 2019. Our links with the Pirelli Welsh National Rally Championship are strengthened as we welcome the Welsh Historc Rally Championship to Builth Wells. Having last hosted a round in 2017, we welcome back the British Rally Championship and with it the Motorsport UK National Rally Championship. More Historic specification cars join us as we host a round of the HRCR Rally Masters Challenge, and last but not least we welcome competitors in the ANWCC Forest Rally Championship This year we will run our tried and tested one-day event that will feature the classic WRC gravel stages on the Epynt Ranges and in the Halfway and Crychan forest blocks, the event will comprise 44 stage miles and 80 road miles with a mid service halt. For 2021 Rally Headquarters will stay in Builth Wells Town Centre, with service taking place in Groe Park Car Park, and the Rugby Pitch behind it, following our successful move in 2019. The event will be running our 1400, Rally First, H1/2 Historic and BRC Class 1 cars in the first batch of cars, followed by the rest of the field in the second batch. We wish you all an enjoyable, successful and safe day’s motor sport. Good luck. The Organising Team A Welcome from our Sponsor I am absolutely delighted that the brilliant team of organisers of the Nicky Grist Stages, led by Neil Cross the Clerk of the Course have pulled together what will be the first forest rally in Wales for over 15 months!! I would like to thank them for all their efforts in making this event happen. I am sure that all you competitors, like myself and the NG Stages team are so looking forward to getting some motorsport adrenaline pumping through our veins again, it has been a long time coming and it will be such a rush come the Saturday start. Being a round, of what appears to be, every rally championship in the UK. This will mean that entries will certainly be a premium, and while our championship competitors are important to us, make sure your entry is placed early and paid for to guarantee your space. The Clerk of the Course has put together some great stages with some subtle changes in the route. Some of which have not been used for a long while, and some sections have never used before on our rally before. The roads are in great condition and a brilliant day’s competition will be in store for everyone. I look forward to welcoming you to Builth Wells in July and Good Luck to all. >8"?*@?&A@*@(&B<8C&1*9& DDDE?"#$%-(")*)*,-.)E#@E8$& DDDEF8"?*@?GH#E@(-E8$ & & Nicky Grist Stages RALLY GUIDE 1 Saturday 10 July 2021 INTRODUCTION This Rally Guide has been produced to give all our potential entrants the background they need regarding this event. They have no regularity power and are produced for your information only. Quinton Motor Club will organise a National permited Special Stage Rally titled Nicky Grist Stages - National on Saturday 10 July 2021 Quinton Motor Club will organise an Interclub permited Special Stage Rally titled Nicky Grist Stages - Interclub on Saturday 10 July 2021 Collectively the events will be known as the Nicky Grist Stages The Headquarters will be at the Strand Street Council Buildings, Builth Wells. The event will be held under the General Regulations of Motorsport UK (incorporating the Provisions of the International Sporting Code of the FIA), the Championship Regulations listed in Article 5 (unless modified by these Supplementary Regulations), these Supplementary Regulations and any written instructions that the organisers may issue. HISTORY OF THE EVENT Quinton Motor Club organised their first non-championship forest rally in 1980. A full entry of 90 cars left Bengry’s Car Auctions in Leominster for 35 stage miles in Radnor Forest. The entry fee was £42. The event was well received and was included in the Welsh Stage Rally Championship the following year. In its early years the event did not have its own forest allocation so moved around Wales using various forests. 1981 saw the event in the Forest of Dean starting from the cattle market in Gloucester and finishing in Monmouth. The City of Gloucester had never played host to this sort of event before so the Mayor was present to flag away the 115 starters. Although the event was only in its second year it received its first works entry when Dealer Team Vauxhall entered a DTV Chevette for Tony Pond and Mike Nicholson. As they were only out testing for the forthcoming RAC Rally they did not book into the final control. So unfortunately the name of one of the countries favourite rallying sons does not appear on the winners list, that honour goes to the ‘King of the Dean’ - Graham Elsmore. The early 80’s saw the event in Ceri forest and then Hafren before a trip to north Wales to use Penmachno and Clocaenog in 1985. Based at the Waterloo Hotel in Betws-y-Coed the event attracted its second works entry when Austin Rover entered Malcolm Wilson and Nigel Harris in a brand new Group B Metro 6R4. They were doing some testing about 6 weeks before the RAC Rally, the spectators were wall to wall, no one could quite believe it. The relationship with the BTRDA started in 1986 when the event was invited to be a round of the BTRDA Clubman’s Championship, promotion to the Gold Star Championship was achieved in 1992. 1986 also saw the event attain its own forest allocation and settle into Llandrindod Wells, which was to be the headquarters town for the next 12 years. The event used various combinations of Ceri, Sarnau, Caio, Esgair Dafydd, Crychan and Brechfa forests. However the move was always southwards so the event left Llandrindod to move to Llandovery and after a number of years to the Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells. In 2019 the event moved into the Town in 2019 taking over the Town Hall for Rally HQ and Gore Street Car Park and Rugby Pitch for Service The establishing of Wales Rally GB in south Wales opened up more gravel stage mileage on the Epynt military ranges. The event was able to utilise these fabulous stages to refine the route to the very compact format that exists today. A new Stage has been added since the British rally Championship last visited the event in 2017 Notable victors in recent years have included the son of the 1985 winner when Matthew Wilson won the event in 2004 at the tender age of 17 years 163 days. The days are important because in 2006 Andreas Mikkelsen won the event the day after he passed his UK driving test at 17years and 16 days. Looking down the list of successful co-drivers we see names such as Phill Mills, Scott Martin and Craig Parry all have gone on to great success on the World Championship The Event has formed a round of the British Rally Championship in 2016 and 2017. 2016 winner, Elfyn Evans is now well established in the WRC Quinton Motor Club Ltd www.nickygriststages.co.uk www.quinton-mc.org.uk Nicky Grist Stages RALLY GUIDE 1 Saturday 10 July 2021 PREVIOUS WINNERS 1980 Allan Edwards Derek Morgan RS2000 1981 Graham Elsmore Pat O’Brien RS1800 1982 Richard Gough Eddie Powis RS1800 1983 Mike Stuart Alistair Roberts Escort DR3 1984 Alec Cannon Jon Savage Ascona 400 1985 Malcolm Wilson Nigel Harris MG Metro 6R4 1986 Chris Mellors Harold White Sierra Cosworth 1987 Ian Roberton Ron Hill Nissan 240 RS 1988 Ian Roberton Ron Hill Nissan 240 RS 1989 Rob Lawrence Peter Bowles MG Metro 6R4 1990 Stewart Robinson Lawrence Clark MG Metro 6R4 1991 Ian Roberton Ron Hill Sierra Cosworth 4x4 1992 Brian Bell Philip Mills Sierra Cosworth 4x4 1993 Brian Bell Philip Mills Escort Cosworth 1994 Mark Perrott Gary Mansell Escort Cosworth 1995 Richard York Nigel Bayliss

  • Mission Accomplished for Sordo and Marti
Acropolis Rally of Greece (11-14 June, 2009) – Day 3 Mission accomplished for Sordo and Marti After restarting under the SupeRally ruling for the third and final day of the 2009 Acropolis Rally of Greece, Dani Sordo and Marc Marti achieved their aims by scoring four points for Citroën in the Manufacturers’ world championship. Day 3 of the Acropolis Rally was held near the service park in Loutraki. The day began with a loop comprising three stages, including a run through Aghii Theodori, a daunting 33 km stage. After restarting in 17th position in the overall standings, the only goal for Dani Sordo and Marc Marti was to finish in order to score a handful of points for Citroën in the Manufacturers’ championship. Arriving in Loutraki for the midday service, Dani Sordo was fully focused on the job in hand: “It’s never easy to run at a controlled pace but I’m taking no risks. I’m staying in the middle of the road – at times, it feels like we’re doing a recce!” Following the cancellation of a stage, the rally concluded with a second run through Aghii Theodori. Running at the same pace, Dani finished in 12 th position, which is worth four points in the Manufacturers’ standings. “Dani and Marc did a perfect job,” concluded Citroën Total World Rally Team team manager Sven Smeets. “These points are even more important because our rivals once again took a maximum score. We’re already looking ahead to the next rally. We’ll be going to Rally Poland even hungrier for a win!” RALLY FACTS Dani Sordo / Marc Marti Stage Overall SS13 : Loutraki 1 (8,98 km) 3rd +1’’5 16 th +19’33’’0 SS14 : Aghii Theodori (33,00 km) 5th +10’’0 14 th +19’21’’1 SS15 : New Pissia (11,30 km) 2nd +0’’2 14 th +19’10’’7 SS16 : Loutraki 2 (8,98 km) SS CANCELLED SS17 : Aghii Theodori (33,00 km) 2nd +5’’3 12 th +18’41’’0 Stage wins Day 1 – SS1 : Jari-Matti Latvala (Ford Focus) – SS2 : Dani Sordo (Citroën C4) – SS3 : annulée – SS4 : Evgeny Novikov (Citroën C4) – SS5 : Sébastien Ogier (Citroën C4) – SS6 : Mikko Hirvonen (Ford Focus).
