Senior defensive 12:00 PM Troy at UL Lafayette Troy, 3-2 specialist Emily Hundt led the club with 27 digs against Little Rock. The 20-plus dig performance by Hundt and Daniel was also the second time this season that South Alabama has had two players do that in a match this season. Hundt had 21 digs and Daniel recorded 20 at Southern Mississippi (9/29/15). South Alabama will return home to host Texas State on Saturday, Oct. 24 in its annual “Dig Pink” match at Jag Gym.

Eagles Win Last 3 Out of 4 The Eagles have won three of their last four matches and return home to take on Appalachian State Friday and UT Arlington Saturday in a pair of Sun Belt contests. First serve for both tilts is set for 6:30 p.m. in Hanner Fieldhouse. Following the weekend, Georgia Southern caps the season with four of its final five contests on the road. The Eagles downed ULM 3-0 and UL Lafayette 3-1 on the road last weekend. Alex Beecher, who is ranked eighth in the nation in digs per set, has 1,590 career digs, 117 away from the Georgia Southern career record, which was set in 2003. The redshirt junior needs 172 to break her own single-season record of 604, set in 2012. Setter/right side Katie Bange has eight double-doubles this season, and five of the eight have included double-figure kills. Four Bobcats tallied double-figure kills, led by Kelsey Weynand. She finished with 14 kills and propelled the Bobcats through the middle sets. Meanwhile, Shelby Vas Matt put down 12 kills and both of them finished with double-doubles with 15 digs for Vas Matt and 14 for Weynand. It’s Weynand’s fourth double-double of the season and the third for Vas Matt. Saturday marks the second match in a row both juniors were able to put double-doubles on the stat sheet. Madison Daigle and Jordan Kohl added 11 kills apiece to keep the offense balanced with Daigle doing it on a .400 hitting percentage. Troy Defeats UL Lafayette A wild first-set comeback proved to be key as the Troy volleyball team beat UL Lafayette in five sets, 3-2 (26-24, 14-25, 25-18, 25-27, 15-9), on Saturday night at Earl K. Long Gym. The win moved Troy’s winning streak to eight matches, just one shy of the program record of nine that was set in 1994. Troy (13-11, 6-4) cemented its spot in fourth place in the Sun Belt standings, and did so with some dramatics early. The Trojans trailed the Cajuns, 24-17, in the first set, but scored nine straight points to take a 26-24 win. “We got into a good scoring and serving rotation and we made the plays we needed to win the first set,” Troy head coach Sonny Kirkaptrick said. “It was a see-saw battle. I’m proud of our team for fighting the way they did and it was huge win for us to go 6-4 in conference.” Blair Winston went on to lead the Trojans with 17 kills and was one of three in double-digits. Reina Terry recorded a triple-double with 10 kills, 35 assists and 13 digs. Sara Landis had 13 kills and joined Winston as two Trojans to hit over .300. UL Lafayette (5-17, 1-9) hit .212 as a team, topping Troy’s .152 attack percentage, thanks in large part to the Ragin’ Cajuns 14.0 total team blocks. Ali Dowdall led all players with 24 digs, joining Terry, Karissa Carney and Alisha Hinrichs in double figures in that category. After the first set win, the Trojans saw UL Lafayette hit .650 in the second set and saw the Ragin’ Cajuns even the match with a 25-14 win.
