WKU scored seven points in the final 14.1 seconds to cap to zero for the Ragin’ Cajuns. the comeback, including Alexis Govan’s steal and layup in the final two seconds… Junior All-America candidate Chastity Gooch has had one of the most dominant stretches of her career over WKU’s last four games, averaging South Alabama Jaguars 21.5 points and 10.3 rebounds over the stretch, including 28.0 points and 12.5 rebounds in two Sun Belt Conference South Alabama posted a 2-1 record this past reporting period, including a pair of Sun Belt wins to begin the games to open the season… Gooch opened Sun Belt Conference play with a flurry, scoring 26 points and grabbing conference season. USA fell 92-92-66 before the Christmas break, but this past week picked up a 74-65 win nine rebounds against South Alabama. She added three blocks and three steals in the game as well. She followed over Western Kentucky in its conference opener and a 65-57 win over Georgia State on Saturday. The 2-0 start to up her best outing of the season with the best outing of her career against Troy. Gooch had 30 points and 16 conference play is the first for the Jaguars since the 2009-10 SBC schedule with that mark. The meeting between rebounds, a new career best in points and a tie for the best mark of her career on the boards, as WKU coasted to a South Alabama and Wake Forest was the first-ever between the two clubs and the first for the program versus an 86-69 win, holding Troy to its third fewest points of the season… Gooch’s dominance has been seen all over the ACC member since hosting Florida State in the first round of the 2004 WNIT. South Alabama is now 5-8 all-time court as she hit 5-of-8 from behind the three-point arc of WKU’s last four games, opening up opportunities around versus current ACC members. All 17 of Meghan Dunn’s points versus the Demon Deacons came in the second half the floor for teammates… Gooch is the only Sun Belt Conference player in the league to score 25 points in both for USA. The five three-pointers by Dunn tied a career-high for the senior and were the most since hitting that games during the opening week of conference season and the first player in WKU history to score at least 25 points number versus Troy in the season finale last season. The four blocks by Jennifer Johnson were a new career-best in each of the first two Sun Belt Conference games of the season. for the senior forward. The 31 points recorded by Wake Forest’s Derica Hamby were a career-high for the junior forward and the first 30-point game by a Jag opponent since Florida International’s Jerica Coley posted 31 on Jan. 27, 2013. The 35 field-goals recorded by the Demon Deacons were the second-most by a Jag opponent this season.
