Guyer Cheer Captain/Co-Captain Contract

Candidate Commitment:  I understand that I will have additional obligations and responsibilities. I will be expected to be self- disciplined, be fair to all team members, give orders, and set an example for other cheerleaders.  I understand that I will be expected to attend captain meetings and may be required to do work outside of normal team practice times during the year.  I understand that more will be expected of me than a regular squad member and I am willing to give what it takes to be an exceptional captain. I understand that my coach has the right to discipline me for falling short of her expectations of a captain which could include dismissal from the captain position.  I understand that outside activities or a job may not interfere with my obligations.  I understand that I am expected to attend all cheer activities, mandatory or optional.  I understand that it is my duty to uphold and abide by the cheer constitution.  I understand that I am a leader for my team but the coaches will make all decisions. I will support the coach at all times. I will accept her decisions and not expect an explanation.  I understand that, as a captain, I will be an ambassador for the cheer program and Guyer High School and will accept this responsibility with pride and dedication. This means that I must set an excellent example in and out of school and cheerleading activities.  Being a captain is a rewarding and fulfilling responsibility. Great things will be expected from you. In signing this form, I make a commitment to my team, my coaches, and to myself to accept the office offered graciously and fulfill all obligations assigned. I am expected to serve a complete one year term.

Specific Captain/Co-captain Responsibilities:  Enroll as Teacher Aide with Head coach (Varsity only).  Commitment to being at ALL activities assigned.  Arrive EARLY to all activities! A captain should be the first one to arrive and the last one to leave.  Willingness to create choreography, formations, and pep rally routines as needed.  Fill out weekly planning sheet and turn in to coach.  Lead practice as based on weekly plan sheet.  Call /chants during game.  Get squad stretched and warmed up for events. Make sure everyone is ready and on time.  Responsible for taking attendance at all activities.  Organize all equipment to be taken to games.  Make sure the squad is productive and on task. This includes keeping everyone quiet, attentive, productive, and focused.  Communicate to teammates about upcoming times and events.  Encourage and initiate: a hard work ethic, a good attitude, responsibility, etc.  Be the liaison between the squad and the coach.  Keep the coach updated on problems, concerns, and ideas of squad members.  Help coach by running various errands.  Do additional work the coach asks of you as situations arise.

Notebook Requirements

Each candidate will compile a notebook that is due on Monday, April 29th. Interviews will take place on Tuesday, April 30th at 4:30. Your notebook should be bound in a one inch binder. Answers should be typed and professional in presentation. Interview dress should be professional, no jeans.

Your notebook should include the following:

-Five Personal Goals

-Five Team Goals

-Please include one page for a pep rally plan. Your plan should include details about the theme, choreography, song, costume, and formations.

-Please include one page for a team bonding activity. Your idea should include details about the event and how you will use it to bring everyone together.

-Essay questions and responses

Answer the following essay questions fully & in complete sentences. 1. Why do you want to be a captain/co-captain for GUYER CHEER?

2. What talents and ideas do you have to offer the GUYER CHEER?

3. What is your greatest positive attribute?

4. Should you make captain/co-captain, what are your weakest points that you want to improve upon? How will you go about doing this?

5. List 3 new ideas that you might propose to the team.

6. Think about team drama. Do you have any suggestions as to how we might deal with it differently or more positively?

7. Is it more important for an captain/co-captain to have leadership OR cheer ability? Why do you think as you do?

8. How would you approach handling stress and the responsibilities of being a captain/co-captain?

9. How would being a captain/co-captain change your relationship with your ?

10. With what tone and/or attitude would you accept criticism from the team simply because you are executing your captain/co-captain duties?

11. How would you handle the situation of a team member breaking a major rule…an incident that you saw first-hand?

12. Gossip. Explain what it is and what is can do to a team. Also, talk about yourself. Do you gossip? What about? Why?
