From Richard Wagner to Donald Duck

Friends of the stage arts and classical music haven’t been forgotten. The Theater Hof and the Hofer Symphoniker (Hof Symphony Orchestra) are there to welcome you, among other things. Once a year, the region becomes the cultural centre of the republic during the Richard Wagner Festival. With the Freilichtbühne Waldstein and the Luisenburg Felsenbühne, the district of Wunsiedel has two open-air theatres to offer.

Lovers of literature can walk in the footsteps of the Fichtelgebirge famous son, the poet Jean Paul. Or you can simply be amazed by the impressive diversity of our museum culture: beer, mining, steam locomotives, comics and of course porcelain, are just a few of many topics that you can rediscover. 42 Key figures - tourism and culture 43

Everything you need for physical well-being

The fact that Oberfranken has the highest density of breweries is well known. The fact that this area also leads with the number of bakeries, pastry shops and butchers is less well known. Even without those remarkable facts, gourmets in the Fichtelgebirge, Hofer Land and around Bayreuth region will find what their hearts desire: delicacies from traditional family-run companies, bratwurst sausages, gingerbread (Lebkuchen) and beer, and in Nagel, a full-blown herbal village.

Speaking of herbs, they are also naturally served when you go to a restaurant for dinner. A group of chefs has come together with the name „Edible Fichtelgebirge“ to combine the traditional recipes of the region: with the green power of Giersch (ground elder), nettles and other herbs. 46 Future 47

Here, the bridge is just one of many projects we think earns us the name, the Zukunftsregion, or Future Region. On Kornberg mountain, there will be the new mountain bike centre with the Kids & Technical Bike Park, in Pottenstein we have the “Skywalk”, a 130 meter long observation walkway with a 65 meter, semi-transparent floor and in Rehau, the „arte noah“ centre for biodiversity is planned directly along the European Green Belt corridor.
