Nik Turner embodies the Spirit Of HawkwindBy ErrolNik Turner was a founding and eminently influential member of Hawkwind. He did leave in '76, but did return briefly in the 80s for a short while. Let's face it, Nik was part of the most seminal and important period in the history of Hawkwind. The albums he appeared on are the stuff of legend. Sure, there was a falling out between Nik and and it's sad that they aren't still playing together. However, Nik's historic take on Hawkwind is valid, important, and incredibly entertaining. The band did continue with Nik and there we some great things in the post Nik Turner period ... but who can deny how awesome 1969-1976 were? I mean ... c'mon ... Space Ritual! Nik Turner is the co-founder of the legendary band Hawkwind, and was a major creative force during that group's most critically acclaimed and successful period, 1969-1976. His outlandish costumes, improvised sax and flute playing, and general wild man persona became iconic representations of the band, and he would go on to pen some of their most popular songs including "Brainstorm" and "Master of the Universe." With tons of never-before-seen photos, rare memorabilia, and personal recollections both hilarious and horrifying, this is the story of Hawkwind's journey from conception to peak, as told by Turner, the man seen by many as the true spirit of Hawkwind.
