The Royall House and Slave Quarters was the home of Isaac Royall, Jr., whose wealth from his family’s slaveholdings and sugar cane plantation in Antigua enabled him to become one of the wealthiest men in Massachusetts in the mid-eighteenth century. After he died, his bequest of land to Harvard led to the founding of Harvard Law School in 1817. Through its architecture and the household items and artifacts on display, the museum bears witness to the lives of the enslaved Africans who once lived on the property.
