Here is the time-tested means, infallible for the discreet and faithful. 2. Laws enforced are effective only after the crime is done. But how to prevent crime or lessen its incidence and toll, for which material efforts are powerless? Try then at least the inner, mental, spiritual power and derive redress. 3. Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha, a knower of the Supreme Truth, has guided numerous seekers towards the invaluable goal of Self-realization, transforming their lives into one of joy and contentment. Swamiji's interpretation of Bhagavadgeeta, Sreemad Bhaagavatam, Upanishads and other spiritual texts, coming from his experiential depth and mastery of Self-realization, inspires seekers with the liberating touch of the transcendental knowledge. Receiving deeksha (spiritual initiation) from Baba Gangadhara Paramahamsa of Dakshinkhanda, West Bengal, Swamiji embraced sannyaasa at the age of 23. Dedicating his life for the welfare of mankind, he has been relentlessly disseminating spiritual wisdom of Vedanta for over 50 years, with rare clarity, practicality and openness, to seekers all over the world. In his mission to reveal to people that "there is a way of living in this world without being bound or troubled by it," Swamiji has been travelling throughout the world like a moving university.

  • Gita Jayanti (Singapore)
Editorial The great work of Vedanta, ‘Yoga Vasishta Maharamayana’ commences with a question by a seeker by name Sutikshna, who goes to the hermitage of the great Guru Agasti in search of answers. His question is of tremendous significance. He asks, “What is it that will bring final release from the bondage of life? Is it works or knowledge? Or both?”. To this question Agasti replies, “The birds do fly in the sky with the help of both their wings; just so is final liberation achieved through both knowledge and works. Neither of the two alone can bring release. Hence both knowledge and works are requisite for moksha.” This answer is of great relevance to students of Gita who are seekers of wisdom, at the same time living active lives in the world. Yoga Vasishta affirms that the highest Truths and realizations are very much for those living here and now. The whole question is how the works are performed in the world and also what is proper knowledge. Gita provides invaluable guidance on how the works are to be performed and also on spiritual wisdom. One needs to be both a dynamic and active personality whose works excel, all done as an offering, but at the same time being an instrument of the Lord, for the Universal music to flow through. Now, what is this knowledge or Jnana? Srimad Devi Bhagavatam throws light on this matter. It says there are two types of knowledge – (1) merely sound (Shabdakam) and (2) from deep experience (Anubhava Jnanam). By mere intellectual study, all one gets is the Shabdaka Jnana or auditory knowledge.

Foreword The association we seek, in ignorance, with worldly minded people leads to bondage. But the same association, if cultivated with holy men, leads to non- attachment .... [Srimad Bhaagavatam, Canto 3, Chapter 23, Shloka 55] A distinct urge to seek clear and correct answers to genuine questions is an indication that a person is now ready to tread the path of seeking and eventual fulfillment. The only requirement is that the seeker must develop genuine sraddha (attention) to find answers and do sadhana regularly. In our age-old Guru-sishya parampara (teacher- student tradition), involved in the ancient Gurukula mode of imparting spiritual wisdom, it is enjoined on the students to approach the Guru with utmost humility and earnestness. The Gita says: “With reverential salutations do you approach them- the wise men who have known the Truth. Serve them, and enquire from them with due respect, until your doubts are clarified. These wise men will impart the knowledge of this divine Truth to you.” (Chapter 4, sloka 34).

  • The Rationality of Hindu Dharma Prabhāta-Raśmiḥ
The Rationality of Hindu Dharma prabhāta-raśmiḥ 15 May 2011 Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha Harih Om Tat Sat. Jai Guru. So that rationality also requires – what is exactly this belief and who is this God? Is it really a myth or is it a fact? I would like to know. So, the better course will be to go into the very concept and belief of God and find out in an authoritative manner what the word God really represents. If he is able to do it, so far as Hindu dharma is concerned, he will find our dharma stands totally independent of God. There is something called devotion and devotional dharma. We don’t deny it but our dharma is inheringly mind born, human born. It is vastu tantra and not purusha tantra. It is not depending upon the consent or preference of an individual. But it is intrinsically based upon the concept or the truth itself. It is in this way. When I say fire is hot, it is not my option, my belief, or my favour. Fire is hot. In the same manner, when we define dharma, this is dharma because it has got that intrinsic characteristic of sustaining ad enabling the human mind. One more point I thought of telling you is our dharma is more rational than otherwise. yuktiyuktaṁ pragṛhṇuyāt bālādapi vicakṣaṇaḥ | anyacca tṛṇavat tyājyaṁ apyuktam padmayoninā || This is what Vasishtha tells Sri Rama in Yogavasishta Ramayanam. yuktiyuktaṁ pragṛhṇuyāt bālādapi vicakṣaṇaḥ A man given to truthful introspection, he should accept even when something is said by a child, or a boy or a girl, provided it is yuktiyuktam, reasonable.
