N.K Damor IAS Collector Office, Tapi-Vyara District-Tapi Phone No: 02626-224460 Fax No: 02626-221281 Prologue Tapi District has been divided from Surat District as Independent district on 2nd of October 2007. After the establishment of Tapi District the need for preparation of Multi Hazard/Disaster Management Plan has been emerged. Tapi had faced multitude of Disaster as Floods, Cyclone, Heavy Rain, Lightening, Earthquake, Firesand also in vulnerable with Nuclear hazards. Experience has shown that pre-planned and practiced procedures for handling an emergency can considerably reduce loss of life and minimize damage too. However the industries have onsite emergency plans but those were limited to the particular territory, but now under the Disaster Risk Management Programme Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority, and Collector Office Tapi are preparing the communities from grass root level to top level for securing quick response mechanism right from bottom to top level under the three DRM Components these are Awareness generation, Plan Preparation and Capacity Building. The Role of each agency in the event of an emergency is specified in the plan. Needless to say that the success of disaster management depends upon the co-coordinator and effective performance of the duties assigned to each and every agency, In Tapi we succeed to bring corporate sector, NGO's Volunteers, SHG's NSS, NYKS, Civil Defense and all Government departments at a common platform for quick response and disaster risk reduction under the DRM, for that I take this opportunity to place on individuals, agencies, organizations who have contributed for the preparation and updation of the Multi Hazards / Disaster Management Plan of Tapi. This plan is a necessary document for reducing risks due to hazards and vulnerability; I hope this great document would be really helpful for protecting life and properties as well as sustainable development in future.     New India Manthan - Vision- 2022 Dist. Tapi-Vyara About Tapi In year 2007, Tapi District was formed out of some Talukas separated from erstwhile Surat District. Vyara is head quarter of Tapi District, which comprises Seven Talukas – Vyara, Songadh, Valod, Uchhal, Dolvan, Kukarmunda and Nizar. Recently in 2007 on 27th September, as a result of bifurcation of Surat district, two new districts came into existence: Surat and Tapi. Vyara became the headquarter of Tapi district and Surat became the headquarter of Surat district. Location of Tapi is in Southern Gujarat, sharing its borders with Nandurbar district of Maharashtra. Vyara, Songadh, Valod, Uchhal, Nizar are listed as the Seven Talukas of Tapi. The Princely state of Baroda called Gaekwads ruled the Vyara town (headquarter of Tapi district, presently). It is majorly inhabited by Chaudhari, Patel, Gamit Shah, Desai, Pancholi, Panchal, Rana, Brahmin. The ex-chief minister of Gujarat state Amarsingh Chaudhery (died in 2003) was born in Vyara. Tapi ditrict has dense forest with significant production of Bamboos. Places of Interest include Fort Songadh, Hindustan Bridge, Desvada Dam, Tapi River, Ukai Dam, Gaumukh. Suresh Joshi (writer) is among the notable personalities who belong to Tapi district.     Vision 2022 About Tapi In year 2007, Tapi District was formed out of some Talukas separated from erstwhile Surat District. Vyara is head quarter of Tapi District, which comprises Seven Talukas – Vyara, Songadh, Valod, Uchhal, Dolvan, Kukarmunda and Nizar. Recently in 2007 on 27th September, as a result of bifurcation of Surat district, two new districts came into existence: Surat and Tapi. Vyara became the headquarter of Tapi district and Surat became the headquarter of Surat district. Location of Tapi is in Southern Gujarat, sharing its borders with Nandurbar district of Maharashtra. Vyara, Songadh, Valod, Uchhal, Nizar are listed as the Seven Talukas of Tapi. The Princely state of Baroda called Gaekwads ruled the Vyara town (headquarter of Tapi district, presently). It is majorly inhabited by Chaudhari, Patel, Gamit Shah, Desai, Pancholi, Panchal, Rana, Brahmin. The ex-chief minister of Gujarat state Amarsingh Chaudhery (died in 2003) was born in Vyara. Tapi ditrict has dense forest with significant production of Bamboos. Places of Interest include Fort Songadh, Hindustan Bridge, Desvada Dam, Tapi River, Ukai Dam, Gaumukh.
