Team GARAGE were thrilled to announce their partnership with global publisher TASCHEN, making GARAGE the first magazine to be stocked in their stores worldwide.

Taschen Store, Paris KEY OUTCOMES • Half a billion social media and traditional impressions amassed (press, social media posts, Times Square billboard, etc.) • 48 million social media impressions GAR AGE Magazine • 21.3 million people reached from cover x Marvel stars’ combined follower-count Times Square Billboard Garage Museum of Contemporary Art is a place for people, art and ideas to create history. Through Moscow an extensive program of exhibitions, events and education, research and publishing, the institution reflects on current developments in Russian and international culture, creating opportunities for public dialogue as well as the production of new work and ideas in Moscow. At the center of all of these activities is the Museum’s collection, which is the first archive in the country related to the development of Russian contemporary art from the 1950’s through the present.

Founded in 2008 by Dasha Zhukova, Garage is the first philanthropic organization in Russia to create a comprehensive public mandate for contemporary art and culture. Open seven days a week, it was initially housed in the renowned Bakhmetevsky Bus Garage in Moscow, designed by the Constructivist architect Konstantin Melnikov. In 2012 Garage relocated to a temporary pavilion in Gorky Park, specifically commissioned from an award winning architect Shigeru Ban. A year later, a purpose built Education Center was opened next to the pavilion. In June 2015, Garage moved to its first permanent home - a groundbreaking preservation project by Rem Koolhaas - that transforms the famous 1968 Vremena Goda (Seasons of the Year) Soviet Modernist restaurant in Gorky Park into a contem- porary museum.

Garage is a non-profit project of The IRIS Foundation. www.garagemca.org/en @garagemca @garage_mca GAR AGE Magazine 3D ANIMATION APP VIRTUAL SCULPTURE Content rising from the page Readers can download the GARAGE Mag App and coming to life and scan pages of the print issue to activate exclusive Perfectly rendered 3D modelling G A R AGE No 9 Magazine FALL/WINTER 2015 CGI animations, modelling and videos POLLINATION ww w..com - 020 7172 0172 Scan Francesco VEZZOLI GARAGE created a virtual

Words by Harriet QUICK GAR AGE Magazine “I wanted to burst the frame of the traditional 2D fashion image, where the world is a mere backdrop,” says maverick image maker Norbert SCHOERNER. “I placed Emily Rose FIANDER in a 360- degree sphere that she could engage with spatially. The aim was to create a textural, environmental piece with which we can interact on a visceral basis, rather than merely record her beauty.”

Schoerner’s piece is, perhaps, the first 360-degree editorial ever made. You’ve seen the technology on Google Street View, but the fashion sphere gives it new momentum. “360-degree is more than a mere gimmick. We’re in the middle of a new language being born,” says Schoerner. Yet any new visual language comes with its APP own set of challenges. For a start, there is no “behind-the-cam- era”: Schoerner hid his crew behind those silhouetted, leafless trees. “There is no close-up, very little we can do – yet – with depth of field, and no pulling focus,” adds Daniel Cheetham, the film’s executive producer. “Our 360-degree cameras capture everything that’s happening in the round – which is clearly not possible for a human eye to do, or for the brain to fully process. The viewer is effectively editing his or her own viewpoint on what we have choreo- graphed. This is the real power of 360-degree experiences. As a viewer, you feel as if you are physically at the center of the content.”

As the chimes echo across the eerily depopulated park, a new space of exploration emerges – and, as Schoerner says, a new chapter in the age-old art of storytelling. You are the audience – but you also inhabit the heart of the story’s world. Beware: those pigeons might actually be watching you. To see it all, turn to page 155 and use your GARAGE Mag app to dior.com - 020 7172 0172 enter Schoerner’s world.
