SUMMARY OF REQUEST In response to statutory requirements and mandatory deadlines of F.S. 333 regarding airport protection zoning, Volusia County proposes the creation of an overlay zoning classification covering unincorporated property in the vicinity of airports publicly owned and operated by the Cities of New Smyrna Beach, Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, Pierson, DeLand and Sanford, along with the ASR-9 radar site. All local governments in the state of Florida are required by F.S. 333 to adopt airport protection standards if located in the “airport hazard area” of a public-use airport. The purpose of these standards is to establish reasonable protections for airport operations and aircraft, to minimize the exposure of adjacent properties to airport hazards and noise, to prohibit incompatible land uses and structures around airports, and to provide for coordination between municipalities and the county. -

I can only imagine what four days R&R in Paris was like when you’d been fighting on the front lines during World War Two in Europe. You can read the interview with him in this book. Without veterans like my grandfather, we may not have a great country to call home. We owe Veterans our freedom. The world would be a much different place than it is today without their sacrifice. MAKE AMERICA BOOM AGAIN How to Bring Back Supersonic Transport _____________________ In 1973, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) banned civil supersonic flight over the United States, stymieing the development of a supersonic aviation industry. In “Make America Boom Again: How to Bring Back Supersonic Transport,” Eli Dourado and Samuel Hammond show that it is time to revisit the ban. Better technology—including better materials, engines, and simulation capabilities—mean it is now possible to produce a supersonic jet that is more economical and less noisy than those of the 1970s. It is time to rescind the ban in favor of a more modest and sensible noise standard. BACKGROUND Past studies addressing the ban on supersonic flight have had little effect. However, this paper takes a comprehensive view of the topic, covering the history of supersonic flight, the case for supersonic travel, the problems raised by supersonic flight, and regulatory alternatives to the ban. Dourado and Hammond synthesize the best arguments for rescinding the ban on supersonic flights over land and establish that the ban has had a real impact on the development of supersonic transport. KEY FINDINGS The FAA Should Replace the Ban on Overland Supersonic Flight with a Noise Standard The sonic boom generated by the Concorde and other early supersonic aircraft was very loud, and as a result the FAA banned flights in the United States from going faster than the speed of sound (Mach 1). This ban should be rescinded and replaced with a noise standard. A noise limit of 85–90 A-weighted decibels would be similar to noise standards for lawnmowers, blenders, and motorcy- cles, and would therefore be a reasonable standard during daytime hours. -

S. Office of Education. The purpose of the study was to collect extensive information on existing academic library consortia and to develop a set of guidelines for planning, developing, operating, and evaluating a library consortium. One product of the study was the "Directory of Academic Library Consortia", which is LI 004173. The decision to produce a supplement came out of a desire to identify and describe a wider range of groups that are participating in the growing movement toward library cooperation. The supplement project was designed to include a greater variety as well as a larger number of cooperating library groups. To this end, the criteria for inclusion were significantly relaxed. Three basic criteria for inclusicn were used in the preparation of the supplement. Cooperatives that were included (1) were not included in the directory; (2) had at least one academic library member; and (3) were actively engaged in, or actively planning to engage in, cooperative library activities. -
