Organic waste includes food scraps, green waste, landscape and pruning waste, non-hazardous food waste and paper waste that have been soiled with food. TIMELINE January 1, 2016 Jurisdictions to implement Organics Recycling Programs. Businesses generating eight (8) cubic-yards or more of organic April 1, 2016 waste weekly must arrange for organics waste recycling services. Businesses generating four (4) cubic-yards or more of organic January 1, 2017 waste weekly must arrange for organics waste recycling services. Jurisdictions report progress on Organics Recycling Programs to August 1, 2017 CalRecycle. Businesses generating four (4) cubic yards or more of solid waste January 1, 2019 weekly must arrange for organics waste recycling services. For more information: http://www.calrecycle.ca.gov/recycle/commercial/organics/ http://www.athensservices.com/recycling-ab1826.html 4 Mandatory Commercial Recycling (Assembly Bill 341, October 2011) Effective July 1, 2012, businesses or public agencies and multifamily complexes with 5 or more units that generate 4 or more cubic yards of trash per week must arrange for recycling programs in order to achieve California’s 75% recycling goal in year 2020 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Following are the options available to businesses and multifamilies: • Separate and take recyclables to a recycling center • Separate recyclables to be picked up by a recycling contractor Note: In Azusa, the contractor must collect recyclables for free or pay business for materials collected. • Continue to throw trash in regular containers Athens will separate the recyclable materials at their Material Recovery Facility (MRF) to ensure AB 341 compliance. The Routt County Vision 2030 report identified sustainability as a core community value. This sentiment is echoed in the vision statement for the City of Steamboat Springs, Steamboat Springs City Council’s 2019 goals, and in the 2019 Routt County Strategic Plan. In response to desires of the community for a commitment to responsible and sustainable management of waste streams, Yampa Valley Sustainability Council (YVSC), with support from Routt County and a comprehensive group of community stakeholders, developed this Waste Diversion Strategic Plan.     WHAT ELSE CAN I RECYCLE? While curb-side recycling may be the most convenient way to recycle, it certainly isn’t the only way. Below is a list of locations where you can recycle items not accepted in your curb-side recycling program. Remember, these items can only be recycled at specially designated locations, and should not be included in your recycling cart. Plastic Grocery Bags Plastic grocery bags can be returned to the Stop & Shop in Unionville. A collection container is located at the entrance. Please use this container only for plastic grocery bags as other plastic bags may be made from other, non-recyclable materials. Rechargeable Nickel-Cadmium Batteries Nickel-Cadmium battery packs are commonly used in rechargeable appliances, laptop computers and cellular phones. While these batteries are rechargeable, they will eventually wear out. The worn battery can be taken to a local Radio Shack for recycling. Paint Recycle your leftover paint through PaintCare Paint Recycling Program (State of CT Paint Stewardship Legislation): Starting 7/1/13, a Connecticut Law requires the paint and coating industry to develop a financially and environmentally sustainable solution to manage postconsumer architectural paint. Under the new program, the paint industry will make paint recycling more convenient by setting up drop-off sites throughout the state where consumers can take their paint. PaintCare will also conduct outreach and education about buying the right amount and using up remaining paint.
