Sharps Collection Program Don’t throw used needles or syringes in the trash! Azusa helps its residents dispose of their sharps waste properly at NO COST. How it works: • Pick-up a sharps container at any of the participating locations • Bring your utility bill or ID with Azusa address • Bring proof of necessity such as prescription or receipt of purchase • Drop off containers in the marked box in front of Senior Center when full Residents can also deposit any rigid sealed containers such as soda bottles up to 2- liters in size. Azusa Ave. (626) 812-5204 (626) 334-1502 (626) 969-4202 3 Mandatory NEW Commercial LAW Organics Recycling (Assembly Bill 1826, October 2014) AB 1826 requires all businesses generating at least 8 cubic yards of organic waste per week to recycle their organic waste. Organic waste includes food scraps, green waste, landscape and pruning waste, non-hazardous food waste and paper waste that have been soiled with food. TIMELINE January 1, 2016 Jurisdictions to implement Organics Recycling Programs. Businesses generating eight (8) cubic-yards or more of organic April 1, 2016 waste weekly must arrange for organics waste recycling services. Businesses generating four (4) cubic-yards or more of organic January 1, 2017 waste weekly must arrange for organics waste recycling services. Jurisdictions report progress on Organics Recycling Programs to August 1, 2017 CalRecycle. Businesses generating four (4) cubic yards or more of solid waste January 1, 2019 weekly must arrange for organics waste recycling services. Following are the options available to businesses and multifamilies: • Separate and take recyclables to a recycling center • Separate recyclables to be picked up by a recycling contractor Note: In Azusa, the contractor must collect recyclables for free or pay business for materials collected. • Continue to throw trash in regular containers Athens will separate the recyclable materials at their Material Recovery Facility (MRF) to ensure AB 341 compliance.
