1985 INTRODUCTION
This Open-File Report lists by quadrangle or other geographic area U.S. Geological
Survey, U.S. Bureau of Mines, State of Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical
Surveys reports and maps, and other selected articles, abstracts, reports, and maps on
the geology, geophysics, and mineral and water resources of Alaska which were published
or released in 1982. Also included are a few pre-1982 reports that were omitted from
other indexes of this series. Quadrangle or other area symbols (see names and
abbreviations listing on page II and quadrangle map locations on page III) following each
title indicate the area(s) of study included in that report. A slash and asterisk annotation
(/*) following an area designation indicates that the entry mentions selected mineral
resources, mineral occurrences, or elemental geochemical evaluations.
Reports that deal with regional tectonic hypotheses, broad regional syntheses,
Alaska in general, or with areas that could not be indentified with specific quadrangles
are entered under "Alaska General". Reports and maps that deal with offshore areas,
some of which may include part of one or more onshore quadrangles, are listed under
"Offshore Areas". The "Alaska General" and the "Offshore Areas" listings appear before
the alphabetically arranged quadrangle listings.
This index of 1982 geological literature on the State of Alaska and adjacent
offshore areas is intended to bring up to date previous indexes of this series (see listing
on pages IV-V). However, note that this index, unlike its predecessors, also includes selected articles, abstracts, and maps from other sources as well as government
publications. ABBREVIATIONS OF ALASKA QUADRANGLE NAMES AND GENERAL GEOGRAPHIC AREAS
