The HepsTrack.com Fan Guide to the 2010 Heps Cross Country Championships brought to you by X-Mester HepsTrack.com is NOT affiliated with the Ivy League in any way. Welcome to the first-ever HepsTrack.com Fan Guide. If this is a success, we intend to do it again. This Fan Guide is brought to you by X-Mester, a col- lege residential experience which pairs successful col- lege seniors and recent graduates with at-risk inner- city high school students. To learn more, please visit X-mester.com. We purposely did not include many images in this document, as to make it easily printable for fans, coaches and athletes. But we strong encourage you to visit Dan Grossman’s MapleLeafPhotos.com, which will have photos not just from this Championship, but all the Heps from the last six years or so. On to the facts, Friday’s women’s Heps Championship race begins at 11 am followed by the men’s title run at 11:45. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 12:30 pm. The easiest way to get to the Championships is take the New York City’s fine subway system. The red line, which links uptown to downtown, ends about two blocks from the parade grounds at Van Cortlandt Park. You truly can’t miss your stop unless you are an amazingly deep sleeper. If you insist burning your own fuel you can visit HepsTrack.com for directions. Good luck with park- ing as many of the side streets to the west have resi- dential permit regulations. They do tow. Trust me. Another reason to take the subway is Coogans, undoubtedly the best place for Heps fans to have lunch. It is conveniently located at the corner of 169th and Broadway, one block north of the 168th Street subway stop. Why Coogans? They offer great food, drink and atmosphere as well as a deep appreciation for track and field (as the restaurant is locat- ed behind the New York City Armory). There is even a Penn Relays plaque hanging on the wall! And since we mentioned the New York City Armory, we want to remind folks that Indoor Heps is returning to that wonderful facility in February. We encourage you to check out the website, managed by Tim Fulton, at ArmoryTrack.com. X-Mester is a two-and-a-half-week, on-campus early college experience which pairs students who have completed their junior year of high school with successful college students and recent gradu- ates. Designed to simulate the first year on a college campus, the high school students live in a dormitory at Vincennes University while taking accelerated coursework. The program integrates academic success, independent learning and leadership skills through rigor, extra-curricular experi- ences and residential life. Unlike most summer residential programs across the nation, X-Mester allows students to earn actual college creditfor much less than many colleges and universities charge for a non-credit pro- gram. This program was initially constructed to serve students enrolled in early college high schools. To learn more about that innovative initiative, please visit X-Mester.com.
