Some Families of Ethiopian Plants and Their Species Provisional Military Government of Socialist Ethiopia Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Wildlife Department Some Families of Ethiopian Plants and their Species by Wolde Michael Kelecha Addis Ababa, Ethiopia May, 1979. 6s/ W > o \ /? / C 1? f $ Provisional Military Government of Socialist Ethiopia, Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Wildlife Department Some Families of Ethiopian Plants and their Species by Wolde Michael Kelecha Addis Ababa, Ethiopia May, 1979. Introduction. This issue of botanical names of Ethiopian Plants is a compilation, mainly from my " Glossary of Ethiopian Plant Names", 1977, There are considerable difficulties in identifiying naturally appearing species of plants in Ethiopi and this publication of botanical names will help to give information to which family, a genus or species belongs. The family name is the most important division of a plant kingdom,. And once the family of a species is known, it may be easy to refer to botanical literature for further information and identification,. Some exotic species found growing in Ethiopia are also included in the list under their corresponding families,, This publication consists of 183 families and about 1840 species with updated botanical namus. In some cases the species and families are followed by synonym(s)c In the indices of botanical names given at the end of the publication the alternative names or synonyms are marked with an asterisk(•)» Although great care has been taken in the preparation of the list of species, the possibility of finding some typing errors cannot be excluded. Therefore, I will be grateful for any error brought to my attention* Addis Ababa, Hay, 19 79. V7olde Michael Kelecha. 1 FAMILIES OF ETHIOPIAN PLANTS AND THEIR SPECIES. ACANTHa CEAE Acanthus arboreus. Tocochromanol derivatives of the seed oil showed differences between Salvia species. γ-Tocopherol was the abundant component in most of the seed oils except of S. cilicica. Corresponding author’s E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Low multiplication ratio of yam and scarcity of planting materials are major constraints militating against sustainable yam production. In order to evaluate the behavior of the four various types of seeds of two species of yams Dioscorea cayenensis and Dioscorea rotundata, cultivated on the experimental ground of the Higher National Institute of Agronomy and Biotechnology (INSAB), a test was realized in a randomized complete block design with six replications. The samples were cut and three levels of each tuber were used: proximal, medial and distal parts of the tuber. The fragments of tuber and the whole tuber represent the various types of seed used in this work. The results showed significant (P<0.05) differences in number of plants emerged and time of emergence in a mixture of 40% soil and 60% sand three months and half after planting.

The first description of its complete habit, basal portion and other features of the spikelets are provided along with new locality of its occurrence. In addition, photographs of the habitats, live plants, and a key to distinguish two Indian endemic species, distribution map and illustration are provided. As per the IUCN Red List Criteria this species is assessed here as Critically Endangered (CR). In order to facilitate the prospective conservation of this grass, we have discussed about the peculiarity of its habitat. Camus (1950: 404) is a fairly small, Afro-Eurasian genus, belonging to the tribe Andropogoneae Dumortier (1824: 84). It comprises seven species distributed in Africa and Tropical Asia, of which two species, namely, P. bellariensis (Hackel 1885: 123) Clayton (1972: 448) and recently described P.

  • Return to Tanzania in Spring 2018 Von BBARRY R.R
Return to Tanzania in spring 2018 von BBARRY R.R. I returned to Tanzania in April and June, 2018, to focus on a few of the many opportunities that we found there. In particular, I wanted to learn more about the species variation, ecology, and extent of the native range of Sansevieria bhitalae (Sansevieria kirkii ‘Superclo- ne‘), observe and collect more examples of the S. elliptica complex 1), and attempt to settle the questi- ons about the status of a plant that is related to S. trifasciata. Once again, we documented populati- ons with photos, collected seeds and cut leaves for propagation to bring these plants into cultivation, and applied GPS readings to all collection sites.
