Sree Vidyanikethan International School Tirupathi SREE VIDYANIKETHAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL TIRUPATHI WORLD KINDNESS DAY World kindness day was introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement. In 2009, Singapore observed the day for the first time. Italy and India also observed the day.At the request of the Chairman of World Kindness Australia, World Kindness Day was placed on the Federal School Calendar and the then Minister of School Education, Early Childhood, and Youth provided a Declaration and placed World Kindness Day on the National School Calendar for over 9000 schools. Schools across the globe are now celebrating World Kindness Day and work with local NGOs. For the first time the ‘World Kindness Day’was celebrated in SreeVidyanikethan International School on the 13th of November, 2017.Under the able guidance of MrKierane Eugene Rigney, Principal of SreeVidyanikethan International School,Garuda House mistress, Ms. Sreerupa Dutta initiated a program called, ‘Help the underprivileged’. Teachers and students of Garuda House enthusiastically participated in the program. The program motivated the students to bring in unused and pre-used clothes, toys, note books, story books, pencils, crayons, erasers, umbrellas and shoes that could be distributed to the needy.This had an overwhelming response. We had packed eight cartons of clothes, four cartons of toys, two cartons of books, another one carton consisted of pens, pencils, erasers, shoes and umbrellas. On 11th of November 2017, we visited ‘Manovikas Kendra, Tirupati, a center for mentally retarded and physically challenged children with these cartons. The center is run by aself-supported and dedicated gentleman, named Mr. Murali. Teachers from Garuda house, accompanied by Vice Principal of the school, Mr. Adam Russels and the ESL teacher, Mr. William Paul Black from Ireland, and students of class XI of Garuda House visited the organization. The students from class VII C, X A, B, C, XII B and IX A volunteered to co-ordinate the program, ‘Help the Underprivileged’ and were passionate towards the cause. This visit to the orphanage truly sensitized the students who now pledged to help the underprivileged in the future as well. In extension of this program, a World Kindness Day -A Special Assembly was held on the 13th of November, 2017. The student of class XI, Master Viswak shared his humbling experience to the school, followed by a talk by the Vice Principal, Mr. Adam Russels on the importance of kindness in the life of students. .

This day provides us an opportunity to act kindly with others and no doubt kindness is an important unifying human principle. What countries celebrate World Kindness Day? It is observed in many countries, including United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, U.A.E ,Canada, Australia, Nigeria and United Arab Emirates. Singapore observed the day for the first time in 2009. How do people celebrate this day? Well, by being kind ... and having lots of fun. One typical event is to use ‘Kindness Rocks’. These are small rocks which you hand to somebody when you do a kind act for them–with the message that now it is the other person’s turn to ‘pass on’ the rocks by doing a kind act for another person. What is kindness? It is a quality that is defined as being friendly, generous and considerate.     WORLD KINDNESS DAY The World Kindness Movement (WKM) WKM is a legally registered not-for-profit organization with no political, commercial or religious affiliations. The formation of the organisation crystallised at a conference in Tokyo on 20th September 1997 when Japan brought together like-minded kindness organisations from around the world for the first time. WKM is now recognised as the peak global body for Kindness and whilst not a governing body it is a platform for collaboration and sharing. The mission of the WKM is to inspire individuals towards greater kindness by connecting nations to create a kinder world. Members of the movement include over 27 nations with representatives from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, India, Italy, Japan, Liberia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Romania, Scotland, South Africa, South Korea,Switzerland, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Uganda, Ukraine, United Kingdom, the USA and Zimbabwe. Following the elections at the London 7th General Assembly in 2012 the kindness torch was passed from Singapore to Australia for the first time, Australia was appointed as the organisation’s Secretariat. The 8th General Assembly in 2014 saw China, France, Switzerland and Thailand appointed to the International Council for the fist time. Australia, India, Nigeria and South Korea were re- elected to serve second terms with the expectation to implement the global strategies developed to bring about positive change whereby all nations of the world can be united under a Coalition of the Good-willing. In 2017 at the 9th General Assembly in Seoul we welcome WKM’s new International Council representing South Korea, Switzerland, India, Australia, Netherlands, Nigeria, China, Mexico who strive to inspire its members and our world leaders, that the vision of a kinder world can be realised in our lifetime.
