As a former student myself, I am conscious just how much the House has changed through the years to meet the changing demands of ministry and mission in the Church of England, elsewhere in the Anglican Communion and in the developing ecumenical partnerships which the Federation embodies. We have been at the forefront in the deliberations which have led to the introduction of the Common Awards. -

The Rt Revd the Bishop of Southwark Rex Andrew Pastoral By email only Our ref: NB37/256b 30 October 2020 Dear Bishop Mission and Pastoral Measure 2011 Benefice and parish of All Saints, Spring Park; and parishes of St George, Shirley; and Shirley (also known locally as St John, Shirley) Proposed Pastoral Scheme Following the publication of the draft Pastoral Scheme providing for: (i) the dissolution of the benefice and parish of All Saints, Spring Park and the division of the area of its parish between the parishes of St George, Shirley; and Shirley (also known locally as St John, Shirley); (ii) the parish church of All Saints, Spring Park to become a chapel of ease in the parish of Shirley; (iii) the transfer of the parsonage house of the benefice of All Saints, Spring Park to the Southwark Diocesan Board of Finance as diocesan glebe we received 45 representations against the draft Scheme, 12 in favour, three letters of comment and five which were received out of time (one of which consists of photographs supplementing a representation made within time). The draft Scheme carried the following as the diocesan rationale for your proposals: As the result of ongoing concerns about the financial viability and capacity for governance and mission going forward, the Bishop of Southwark held a Visitation to the parish of All Saints, Spring Park in 2016. This was conducted by the Bishop and Archdeacon of Croydon. A series of Directions were issued as a result of this, designed to help the parish to address these areas. There has sadly been no evidence that this has been the case nor has the parish demonstrated the future capacity to do so. -

What an enormous festival it has become! There is no religious event in the worldwide calendar that attracts such a wide amount of participation. You may already be signed up for Christmas meals, outings or shopping trips, and some of us will have a good idea as to who from our family and friends will be receiving a visit from us, and which ones will be paying us a seasonal visit. It is also inevitable that Christmas celebrations will be undertaken with varying degrees of respect to the fact that it is a Christian festival, although not our most important one. Christmas is inspiring because of the talk of peace and goodwill; it is fun because it is a celebration, and it is commercial because we exchange cards and presents. It is a way for people who don’t see each other very often to catch up, and there is nothing sinister or threatening about a baby in a manger, especially as we usually surround the crib with a host of cute and fluffy farmyard animals. Meanwhile, we have other remembrances; we celebrate parliamentary democracy on Bonfire Night; we mourn those we have lost on All Saints’ Sunday, also on November 5th this year; the following Sunday is Remembrance Sunday itself; then it’s only a fortnight to “Stir Up Sunday”, the Sunday before Advent, when the collect – “Stir up O Lord the will of thy faithful people…” - reminded generations of cooks to stir up the ingredients for their Christmas puddings, etc. -

Porvoo Prayer Diary 2021
PORVOO PRAYER DIARY 2021 The Porvoo Declaration commits the churches which have signed it ‘to share a common life’ and ‘to pray for and with one another’. An important way of doing this is to pray through the year for the Porvoo churches and their Dioceses. The Prayer Diary is a list of Porvoo Communion Dioceses or churches covering each Sunday of the year, mindful of the many calls upon compilers of intercessions, and the environmental and production costs of printing a more elaborate list. Those using the calendar are invited to choose one day each week on which they will pray for the Porvoo churches. It is hoped that individuals and parishes, cathedrals and religious orders will make use of the Calendar in their own cycle of prayer week by week. In addition to the churches which have approved the Porvoo Declaration, we continue to pray for churches with observer status. Observers attend all the meetings held under the Agreement. The Calendar may be freely copied or emailed for wider circulation. The Prayer Diary is updated once a year. World Kindness Day World Kindness Day is celebrated on 13 November; it was introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement, a coalition of nations' kindness NGOs. This day provides us an opportunity to act kindly with others and no doubt kindness is an important unifying human principle. What countries celebrate World Kindness Day? It is observed in many countries, including United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, U.A.E ,Canada, Australia, Nigeria and United Arab Emirates. Singapore observed the day for the first time in 2009. How do people celebrate this day? Well, by being kind ... and having lots of fun. One typical event is to use ‘Kindness Rocks’. These are small rocks which you hand to somebody when you do a kind act for them–with the message that now it is the other person’s turn to ‘pass on’ the rocks by doing a kind act for another person. What is kindness? It is a quality that is defined as being friendly, generous and considerate. Words related to kindness are affection, warmth, gentleness, concern, care, etc. It is an interpersonal skill. Kindness is a willingness to celebrate other’s success and help a person when he or she is in need. What are the attributes of a kind person? Describe the pictures using the keywords below. The challenges facing higher education generally and training for ordained ministry in the Church of England in particular are complex. At the heart of the life of Westcott remains a deep commitment to disciplines of prayer and the Eucharistic life which has shaped the House from the beginning. The World Kindness Movement (WKM)
WORLD KINDNESS DAY The World Kindness Movement (WKM) WKM is a legally registered not-for-profit organization with no political, commercial or religious affiliations. The formation of the organisation crystallised at a conference in Tokyo on 20th September 1997 when Japan brought together like-minded kindness organisations from around the world for the first time. WKM is now recognised as the peak global body for Kindness and whilst not a governing body it is a platform for collaboration and sharing. The mission of the WKM is to inspire individuals towards greater kindness by connecting nations to create a kinder world. Members of the movement include over 27 nations with representatives from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, India, Italy, Japan, Liberia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Romania, Scotland, South Africa, South Korea,Switzerland, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Uganda, Ukraine, United Kingdom, the USA and Zimbabwe. Following the elections at the London 7th General Assembly in 2012 the kindness torch was passed from Singapore to Australia for the first time, Australia was appointed as the organisation’s Secretariat. The 8th General Assembly in 2014 saw China, France, Switzerland and Thailand appointed to the International Council for the fist time. Australia, India, Nigeria and South Korea were re- elected to serve second terms with the expectation to implement the global strategies developed to bring about positive change whereby all nations of the world can be united under a Coalition of the Good-willing. In 2017 at the 9th General Assembly in Seoul we welcome WKM’s new International Council representing South Korea, Switzerland, India, Australia, Netherlands, Nigeria, China, Mexico who strive to inspire its members and our world leaders, that the vision of a kinder world can be realised in our lifetime.
