2015- 2016 Magnet Application Information

2015-2016 Magnet Applications will be available in March at all Utica City Schools and the Pre-K & Student Programs Office. If you would like your child to attend a Magnet school other than their homeschool next year or would like them to return to their homeschool please complete a Magnet School Choice Application.

Kindergarten Registration

All children that will be 5 years old ON or BEFORE December 1, 2015 are eligible to attend Kindergarten. * IF YOU ARE COMPLETING A MAGNET APPLICATION FOR A KINDERGARTEN STUDENT YOU MUST ALSO REGISTER HIM/HER AT THEIR HOME SCHOOL FOR KINDERGARTEN. If you do not register your child, the Magnet Application will not be valid. If selected for a magnet school placement, your child’s registration will be transferred by the home school to the magnet school.

ALL MAGNET APPLICATIONS ARE DUE ON FRIDAY - MAY 22nd 2015.

2015-2016 Magnet Applications that are completed can be returned to your child’s homeschool or to the:

Other Magnet Information: You do no need to complete a Magnet Application for your child if they are already assigned to a magnet school and would like to stay there. Once a child is placed at a magnet school, he/she may stay there until leaving the school. Magnet School Expectations: Placement at a magnet school is a privilege, and Magnet students are expected to comply with the Utica City School District’s Code of Conduct and all school rules. Students that do not comply will be returned to their home school upon request of the principal. Notification: You will be notified of your child’s Magnet placement in July, following the lottery process. Busing: The Utica City School District will provide transportation to magnet schools for students that live outside of the established mileage limit: One mile for elementary students and 1.5 miles for secondary students. Address Changes: If your address changes after completing the Magnet Application, please contact your child’s school and the Pre-K & Student Programs Office. You will need to provide the school with a new proof of residency reflecting that address: National Grid, Time Warner, Water, Telephone Landline Bill or SSI Award Letter/TANF Budget Sheet.
