La Maison de l'Eau

House Miner offers an exceptional overview of surface installations of coal production in the Cevennes, an overview of the work of the minor through objects and stories, a moving discovery of the heritage and history of the mining basin of the Grand combe.

La Maison du Mineur à la Grand Combe en Cévennes

La visite commence d’abord par le bâtiment des lavabos où se douchaient les mineurs à chaque sortie de poste de travail. On y comptait 1800 paniers hissés au plafond au moyen d’une chaîne. Un panier numéroté était attribué à chaque mineur lors de son affectation à la mine. Dans ce panier, celui-ci y rangeait ses vêtements. Le lavabo est maintenant une salle de collections où l’on trouve les photos, lampes, matériels de fond, briquettes et boulets de charbon, fossiles, plans ainsi que la reconstitution de l’habitat du mineur au début du siècle. L’atelier de lampes de mine de sûreté dans son état d’origine (1873) vaut vraiment le coup d’oeil ! Ici, on touche du doigt le quotidien du mineur. Rien n’est factice. Tout est d’époque sauvé in extremis de l’oubli....

La visite se poursuit sur l’ancien carreau vers la salle des machines. Le chevalement du Puits Ricard est à lui seul très impressionnant. Il permettait la descente des cages jusqu’à 801 mètres de profondeur. Ce Puits comme l’ensemble du site a été construit entre 1932 et 1935 et fermé en 1978. Il est classé Monument Historique et a fait l’objet d’un important chantier de restauration en 2010 qui permet maintenant la visite des abords du Puits avec une signalétique extérieure très pédagogique. En entrant dans la salle des machines, depuis une passerelle panoramique, on peut observer le tambour sur lequel s’enroulaient les câbles de la machine d’extraction, unique en Europe. Sont aussi à voir le poste du machiniste, les compresseurs d’air, les génératrices d’électricité.
Autour du Puits Ricard
Le visiteur découvre l’univers du bâtiment de la Recette, située sous le chevalement. C’est le niveau d’arrêt des cages qui permettait au personnel de rentrer et de sortir de la cage, d’évacuer et de charger le matériel et les berlines. Enfin sur la gauche, avant le retour vers les lavabos, le visiteur longe les ateliers spécialisés où étaient réparés tout ce qui concernait les outils et le matériel du carreau Ricard.
La Maison du Mineur offre donc une vue d’ensemble exceptionnelle des installations de surface de la production houillère en Cévennes.
La maison du mineur propose un panorama du travail du mineur à travers objets et témoignages. Une découverte émouvante du patrimoine et de l'histoire du bassin minier de La Grand combe.

In the history of French Protestantism, the expression Desert defines the period of time between the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes (1685) and the French Revolution (1789).

This is a large gathering Protestant organized every year on the first Sunday in September on the grounds of the Museum of the Desert. The first meeting took place September 24, 1911, at the inauguration of the Museum with its founding.
