“I WOULD DO THE SAME THINGS OVER AGAIN” Wisdom for the Spiritual Life according to Mother Mary of the Seven Dolors “GAVE EACH NOVICE A NEW NAME” 4 August 1841 The Annals of the Congregation of the Marianite Sisters of Holy Cross recount a simple ceremony that took place in the chapel of the Good Shepherd Monastery in Le Mans, France, on Wednesday, 4 August 1841. “The investiture was preceded by a three-day retreat given by Father Founder to the entire community. The morning of the ceremony he celebrated Holy Mass at which the Fathers, Brothers and Sisters assisted. The future novices, dressed in white, were conducted to the grating by Mother Prioress and her Assistant, while the religious of Holy Cross sang the Ave Maria Stella. The Good Shepherd ritual was closely followed. Reverend Father Founder blessed the veils and the silver hearts, and gave each novice a new name: Mademoiselle Léocadie Gascoin received that of Sister Mary of the Seven Dolors; Marie Robineau, that of Sister Mary of Calvary; Renée Boutellier, that of Sister Mary of the Compassion; and Leonie Chapin, that of Sister Mary of Holy Cross. The ceremony ended with the kiss of peace and the chant of the Te Deum; the new novices then returned to the novitiate.” The giving of a new name signals the beginning of a new way of life, a new direction, a new commitment. For the four young women in this scene, taking on a new name was precisely that. And yet, it was so much more. They were pioneers. -

FRANCE 2.3-FRA.640.11 Daughters of the Cross of Paris Founded 1640 at Paris, France, byMadame L'Huillier deVilleneuve (1597-1650), a Lady of Charity, following the advice of Saint Vincent de Paul to establish a system of free schools and education of young women. The Duchess d'Aiguillon (1604-1673), also a Lady of Charity, 122 may be considered a cofounder, and was a major benefactor, as well as advocate in obtaining approbation,!" At one time the institute of Saint-Quentin received refuge (due to war) from this institute. Francis de Sales provided the initial inspiration to the founder, as well as a copy of his original rules for the Visitation. Villeneuve had been actively consulting Vincent de Paul regarding communityaffairs since February 1648, and after her death, Saint Vincent became responsible for overseeing and stabilizing its organization and government (1650-1660). Louis Abelly (1604-1691), bishop of Rodez, became its ecclesiastical superiorfor twenty-four years. Foundations by this insti tute became diocesan after each mission was firmly established and many have combined.'" Some formed a federation (1969) known as the Mysterium Christi."o 2.3-FRA.696.0 Dominican Sisters of Charity of the Presentation of the Holy Virgin (Sisters of the Presentation of Tours) Founded 1696 at Sainville in Eure-et-Loir, France, in the diocese of Chartres by the Reverend Franc;ois Mespolie, O.P., and Blessed Marie Poussepin (1653-1744, beatified 1994). Poussepin, as a youth had deal ings with the Daughters of Charity through the Confraternity ofChar ity at Dourdan where her mother, Julienne Fourrier Poussepin, was a I36Marie de Vignerod (1604-1673), the Duchess d'Aiguillon, was an active collaborator and benefactor ofVincentde Paul. -

He was known in his time as a preacher and was made a missionary apostolic by Pope Clement XI. Louis de Montfort 2 As well as preaching, Montfort found time to write a number of books which went on to become classic Catholic titles and influenced several popes. Montfort is known for his particular devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the practice of praying the Rosary. Montfort is considered as one of the early writers in the field of Mariology. His most notable works regarding Marian devotions are contained in The Secret of Mary and the True Devotion to Mary. The Roman Catholic Church, under the pontificate of Pope Pius XII canonized Montfort on July 20, 1947. A "founders statue" created by Giacomo Parisini is located in an upper niche of the south nave of Saint Peter's Basilica. Early years He was born in Montfort-sur-Meu, the eldest surviving child of eighteen born to Jean-Baptiste and Jeanne Robert Grignion. His father was a notary. Louis-Marie passed most of his infancy and early childhood in Iffendic, a few kilometers from Montfort, where his father had bought a farm. -
St. Eugene De Mazenod Had a “Zeal for the Kingdom of God” That Was Infectious
Saint Eugene De Mazenod Feast Day: May 21st Born Charles Joseph Eugene de Mazenod on August 1, 1782 into a wealthy family in the south of France, his life was quickly transformed by the French Revolution. At the age of 8, he fled France with his family to Italy as political refugees. Following an eleven-year exile, Mazenod returned to France when he was 20 years old; it was a whole new world. Distressed by the state of the Church in France, Mazenod felt called to the priesthood; he was ordained December 21, 1811 in Amiens, a city in northern France. Eventually, he returned to his hometown, Aix-end-Provence. He focused his ministry on the less fortunate – such as prisoners, youth, servants, workers, and country villagers. His preaching in the local language, rather than French, led to some local opposition by other members of the church. He engaged in an “intense community life of prayer, study and fellowship” along with a group of other “equally zealous priests,” according to the Vatican. These men, once called the Missionaries of Provence, became known as the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate in 1826 with Pope Leo XII’s approval. When he founded the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, the congregation primarily served the “spiritually needy” on the French countryside but eventually expanded their ministry to Switzerland, England and Ireland, at first, and then to Canada, USA and parts of Africa. This missionary order spread throughout the world – living out their motto, “He has sent me to evangelize the poor,” by establishing a deep spiritual foundation, close community life and a visible, unfettered love for the less fortunate. -

Fr.NorbertLobo MayGodblessyou s n o i t a l u t a r g n o C Montfort Marian Centre To Jesus Through Mary al Three hundred years passed after the heavenly birth of St. Louis Marie de Montfort, “A Prophet for our itori Times” as titled by Benedetta Papasogli. This is a unique occasion and joyful event in the life of Ed Montfortain family around the globe. It is a call to go back to the sources, that is, the Spirituality and Charism with greater dynamism and zeal for recalling, renewing and revitalizing the spirit and the mission. This issue titled as Tricentnaire is an attempt to reread and live Montfort with greater enthusiasm. This issue, To Jesus through Mary, is dedicated to this noble cause of awakening the vibrant missionary mandate handed down by our founder. He moves from place to place teaching, preaching and healing in the footsteps of Christ the Wisdom Incarnate. We read him in his own words and actions. Montfort moves from Poitiers to Paris and starts to live and work in large poorhouse called La Salpetriere. From this location he gives lectures on Wisdom to the seminarians of Poulart des Places. These he works up in The Love of the Eternal Wisdom ( LEW), his most important text on Wisdom, most likely written after being expelled from La Salpetriere and while living under a staircase in the rue du Pot-de-Fer. His fascination with Wisdom at that time shows in a letter to his mother: “ In my new family.. -

Sa vie et ses oeuvres [8 vols., Paris: Plon, 1874-1880], vol. V., p. 65, note.) He puther in contact with Commander de Sillery in the hope that she would finish the work ofbringing him back to God. She died March 25, 1655, at the monastery of Chaillot, where she was the first Superior. Her name is often mentioned in the biography of her sister: R.P. -
Koch Foundation 2011 Annual Report
Mission Statement Carl Koch’s belief that he was “just a steward of the fi nances given by God to use on His behalf” inspired the commitment he and his wife, Paula, made to founding the Koch Foundation in 1979. The Foundation’s goals are to strengthen and to propagate the Roman Catholic faith by providing grant support for a wide variety of evangelization eff orts. In considering applications, major emphasis is placed on sound but fi nancially needy evangelical programs. The Koch Foundation is international in scope with no geographical preference. Carl and Paula Koch 2 Letter From The Executive Director I have been blessed in my life to have had several family members who chose to dedicate their lives in service to God, so there has never been a time when I did not visit my relatives and see a cousin dressed all in black with a worn yet beloved Rosary tucked carefully into her simple belt. I can remember as a young child Sister teaching me to say the Rosary and telling me that whenever I attended Mass I was to pray the Rosary. That memory has stayed with me into adulthood and, when I became a mother, the Rosary took on a special and personal meaning. I found I was praying the Rosary more often and usually for something concerning my son and family. I began to realize that I needed the solace I could only fi nd by praying the Rosary. Like many parents, in addition to my work at the Foundation I am also my son’s chauff eur, carting him to and from various sports events. -

PRESIDENT’S REPORT As we gather for this National Assembly in 2019, we recall the gifts and challenges that have been ours during this past twelve months. At our Assembly in 2018 we launched the new National CRA structure. The CRA Council was entrusted to carry forward the vision of this reality across Australia. This was an exciting opportunity in which to be involved. It required both delighting in the birthing of the new and at the same time engaging with the experience of transition. Of significance has been the establishment of the CRA committees, the State networking bodies and the work of the CRA council as well as the development of the secretariat. There is much to celebrate and appreciate in what has been achieved. During these days of the Assembly, the Council will shall share with you the next phase of the implementation of this National CRA structure. Embracing the Vision of the National CRA Structure At the heart of this vision has been our on-going commitment to participation in the mission of God. -
