May 2List of The Dadilja → episode The Dadilja is released on CBS from November 3, 1993 to May 16, 1994. The series was created by actress Fran Drescher and her then-husband Peter Marc Jacobson and developed by Prudence Fraser and Robert Sternin. In Sternin and Fraser Ink and TriStar Television, Drescher, Jacobson, Fraser, Sternin, Caryn Lucas and Diane Wilk are available as executive producers. Most episodes of the season were available wednesdays at 8:30 p.m., the first few on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. Inspired by Drescher's visit with a friend and The Sound of Music, the season revolves around Fran Fine, a Jew from Flushing, Queens in New York, hired by a wealthy Broadway producer to babysit her three children. Drescher plays the title character, Charles Shaughnessy as British producer Maxwell Sheffield, while the children - Maggie, Brighton and Grace - have been tricked by Nicholle Tom, Benjamin Salisbury and Madeline Winter. The series also includes Daniel Davis as Niles, the family butler, and Lauren Lane as C.C. Babcock, Maxwell's collaborator in his production company, who is twisted with him. Several recurring characters also played a role in sitcoms plotlines, many of whom were related to Fran. The first season on nannies debuted to moderate numbers and ratings for the channel, retaining most of the initial audience throughout the season. The season finale, however, generated a huge increase in viewership as it scored the second highest rating for the season for the fifth episode of Here Comes the Brood. The season was released on DVD by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment in 2005, almost 12 years after its launch. The production concept concept for Nanny came into fruit during Drescher's trip to France and the United Kingdom. In France, Drescher lived with his family and watched family life with a Guatemalan nanny. [1] After leaving France, Drescher went to the UNITED Kingdom to visit a close friend, model and former Princess Twiggy. Meanwhile, Drescher spent time with Twiggy and her husband Leigh Lawson's children. Drescher found out how it felt like she wasn't in a place in the country: Everything was so English, so appropriate. I felt like this loud New Yorker, so raw, so blue collar, so Jewish. Drescher called her husband, producer Peter Marc Jacobson, and told him her idea of taking off the sound of music, only to come through the door in place of Julie Andrews. [2] In 1991, she appeared on THE PRINCESSES on CBS in 1991. The series spearheaded by Jeff He was imbued with rumours of a behind-the-scenes drama. The start of the series was unsue, and after just five episodes amid declining ratings, CBS canceled the show. [1] Drescher met with Sagansky during a flight to France and agreed to present the idea to CBS with Jacobson. After travelling to France and visiting with Twiggy, Drescher told her idea to her husband, who said:This is an idea that will be sold. Four months later, the series was signed as a writer and executive producer in a pre-production with Drescher and Jacobson. In January 1994, the season was a full season. Making and Managing Class: Employment of Paid Domestic Workers in Russia Anna Rotkirch, Olga Tkach and Elena Zdravomyslova This text is published with minor corrections as Chapter 6 in Suvi Salmenniemi (ed) Rethinking class in Russia. London: Ashgate 2012, 129-148. Introduction1 Before, they used to say “everybody comes from the working classes”. I have had to learn these new practices from scratch. I had to understand how to organise my domestic life, how to communicate with the people who I employ. They have to learn this too. (Lidiia, housekeeper) Social class is a relational concept, produced through financial, social and symbolic exchange and acted out in the market, in work places, and also in personal consumption and lifestyle. The relations between employers and employees constitute one key dimension of social class. Of special interest are the contested interactions that lack established cultural scripts and are therefore prone to uncertainties and conflicts. Commercialised interactions in the sphere of domesticity contribute to the making of social class no less than do those in the public sphere. In this chapter, we approach paid domestic work as a realm of interactions through which class boundaries are drawn and class identity is formed. We are interested in how middle class representatives seek out their new class identity through their standards and strategies of domestic management, although we also discuss the views of the domestic workers. As the housekeeper Lidiia stresses in the introductory quotation to this chapter, both employers and employees have to learn new micro-management practices and class relations from scratch. The assertion that class is in continual production (Skeggs 2004) is especially true for the contemporary Russian situation, where stratification grids are loose and class is restructured under the pressure of political and economic changes.

Advisor: Barbara B. Moran This study examines the representations of Jewish women in comic books and graphic novels, starting with a discussion of common stereotypes about Jewish women in American popular culture. The primary sources under investigation include Gilbert Hernandez’s Love and Rockets X, Aline Kominsky-Crumb’s autobiographical works, the X-Men comic books, Art Spiegelman’s Maus and Portrait of the Artist as a Young %@&*!, Joann Sfar’s The Rabbi’s Cat, and J.T. Waldman’s Megillat Esther. The representations of Jewish women in comic books and graphic novels vary widely. And although certain stereotypes about Jewish women—especially the Jewish Mother and the Jewish American Princess—pervade American popular culture, most of the comics featuring Jewish characters do not seem to have been greatly influenced by these images.
