    97 7.1.19 Faridabad The Faridabad district is located in the southern part of Haryana state. The district lies between 28°23’1.141” and 28°22’39.975” north latitudes and 77°20’44.617” and 77°32’36.575” east longitudes. The total geographical area of this district as per Census is 764 sq.kms. The district is named after the town Faridabad, which is said to have been founded in 1607 by Shaikh Farud, treasurer of Jahangir, with the object of protecting the highway, which passed through the town in those days. The climate condition of the district slightly differs from other southern districts of Haryana state. The climate characteristics of the district are dry air, except during monsoon, hot summer and cold winters. The normal annual rainfall is 521.1 mm. It increases towards east. About 77 percent of annual rainfall in the district is received during the monsoon months i.e. July to September. On an average there are 28 rainy days in a year in the district. Temperature begins to rise from March to June. June is the hottest month. Maximum temperature may go up to 48°C. With the onset of monsoon, temperature starts falling and during monsoon period weather remains uncomfortable due to increased humidity and warm night. January is the coldest month. Occasionally during winter season, cold in association with western disturbances brings temperature down to freezing point. The district has monotonous physiography and has alluvium deposits. The district is enjoying with very good network of canals, wells and tube- wells alongwith the river Yamuna as its natural water source.

Abstract Bhindawas Wetland is spread over an area of 1074 acres in Jhajjar district of Haryana State, India. Bhindawas wetland in present time encountered with various environmental problems viz., point and non-point pollution created by surrounding agricultural fields and from drain No. 8, weed infestation, eutrophication and siltation etc. Water logging of peripheral agricultural field with higher salinity is threat to biodiversity loss. Keeping in view of biodiversity losses in the wetland, the present study was carried out to generate documentation information regarding floral and avian faunal diversity of Bhindawas wetland. Plants and birds were identified by comparing the specimen of plants with existing herbarium and picture of material prescribed in good reference books and with the help of expert. A total of 84 plants species have been reported. The maximum numbers of plant species were belonged to order Fabales followed by order Lamiales family. Total of 66 species of wetland birds belonging to 30 families have been recorded from the study area. Of all, families Anatidae dominated the list with 9 species.     PLP – 2016-17 Jhajjar District EXECUTIVE SUMMARY I About District Jhajjar district with a geographical area of 1834 Sq. Km. (1911 Sq. Km. according to village papers) is situated in the Middle Eastern part of the Haryana State. It is surrounded by Rohtak and Sonepat districts in the North, Rewari and Gurgaon districts in the South, national capital Delhi in the East and Bhiwani district in the West. It comprises of 3 tehsils, 1 sub-tehsil, 5 blocks, 5 towns and 247 inhabited villages/ towns. Agro-climatically, Jhajjar district falls under sub-humid and semi-arid zone. The economy is purely agrarian and is supported by other economic activities like dairying, horticulture, service, trade and business. The district (except Bahadurgarh block) has been identified as an industrially backward. According to 2011 census, the population of the district is 9.58 lakh with a population density of 523 persons per KM. The Sex ratio is alarmingly low at 862 females per thousand males. District is in a better position with respect to roads, education, electricity and water availability and lagging behind in respect of irrigation, transportation, marketing facilities, etc. than the State Infrastructure Average Index. Out of the total 73203 landholdings, 50072 landholdings are with that of small and marginal farmers (68.4% of the total) who own up to 2 hectares of land. However, the land holding area of these farmers aggregate to 36516 hectares which constitutes 23.9% of the total land holding area of the district. Total geographical area of Jhajjar district is 1,91,000 hectares. The total cultivable area is 1,69,000 hectares.
