The target species was observed for about 15 months to determine the population dynamics in Çine River Valley which was the first recorded locality. These hygrophytic species have developed an adaptation mechanism to regenerate and expand the population on Liquidambar orientalis Mill. and Platanus orientalis L. trunks which exposed to repetetive floods. To describe the biological adaptations which relies on the fact of decrease and increase of the population size, in vitro / ex situ experiments were carried and gemmae production ability that was not known before was observed. Propagation by means of fragmentation that is common among mosses was also observed in the species. The present study is very important being the first study on the biology of Turkish bryophytes. Kuprevich Institute of Experimental Botany, Belarusian National Academy of Sciences, Academic 27, Minsk, 220072, Republic of Belarus, e-mail: [email protected] Abstract: The detailed research of bryophyte flora, carried out in 2008-2011 on fortifications from the times of the First World War and Second World War in Grodno district, resulted in recording 101 species, of which 95 species were true mosses (Bryophyta) and 6 species were hepatics (Marchantiophyta). Because the substratum displayed certain ecological similarity with carbonate rocks, we made comparative analysis of the species list. The total of 28 rare and very rare (in Belarus scale) bryophyte species were recorded, of which 3 species were included in the Red Data Book of Belarus; 3 species had a conser- vation status at the European level. Key words: bryophyte flora, concrete fortifications, carbonate rocks, comparative analysis 1. Introduction These constructions occur more often in the western part of the country. Older fortifications, built before the First In general, within a region, bryophyte floras retain World War (WWI), were the most interesting to us, in more ancient features than vascular floras. ИГНАТОВ1, ИРИНА А.МИЛЮТИНА2 Abstract A new species from China, Podperaea baii, is described. In addition to morpho- logical differences from the second species of the genus, P. krylovii (Amlystegiaceae s.l.), P. baii differs in the nrITS1 sequence, which is very similar to that of the genus Herzogiella from the phylogenetically distant family Plagiotheciaceae. At the same time, nrITS2 in P. baii is much more similar to Amblystegiaceae than Plagiothe- ciaceae. This case is the first report of the putative remote hybridization in mosses. Abstract The biodiversity of the entrance zones of the Montenegro caves is barely studied, therefore the purpose of this study was to assess the biodiversity of several caves in Montenegro. The samples of phototrophs were taken from various substrates of the entrance zone of 7 caves in July 2017. A total of 87 species of phototrophs were identified, including 64 species of algae and Cyanobacteria, and 21 species of Bryophyta. Comparison of biodiversity was carried out using Jacquard and Shorygin indices. The prevalence of cyanobacteria in the algal flora and the dominance of green algae were revealed. The composition of the phototrophic communities was influenced mainly by the morphology of the entrance zones, not by the spatial proximity of the studied caves. Key words: karst caves, entrance zone, ecotone, algae, cyanobacteria, bryophyte, Montenegro. Introduction The subterranean karst forms represent habitats that considered more climatically stable than the surface.

  • Sphagnum Centrale and S. Palustre from Mediterranean Basin: a Comparison with Conspecific North American Populations by Microsatellite Analysis
Cryptogamie, Bryologie, 2016, 37 (2): 211-223 © 2016 Adac. Tous droits réservés Sphagnum centrale and S. palustre from Mediterranean basin: a comparison with conspecific North American populations by microsatellite analysis David CRESPO PARDO*, Simonetta GIORDANO, Maria Cristina SORRENTINO & Valeria SPAGNUOLO Dipartimento di Biologia, Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, Complesso Universitario Monte S. Angelo, Via Cinthia 4 - 80126 Napoli, Italy. Abstract – Twenty nine South European specimens of Sphagnum centrale, S. palustre, S. papillosum and S. magellanicum were studied with 15 microsatellite markers. In contrast with eastern North American populations, our analysis showed a genetic overlapping between S. centrale and S. palustre in mixed populations. Moreover, Mediterranean species showed a genetic richness (total number of alleles) higher than that calculated in conspecific American samples. As Mediterranean Sphagnum bogs are remnant populations, microsatellites could well work for selecting source populations in order to recover Mediterranean peatlands. Genetic richness / Mediterranean peatland conservation / peat mosses / relict populations INTRODUCTION Peatlands are ecosystems with a great importance in the global climate since they fix large amounts of carbon. These systems cover about 3% of theEarth land surface (Yu et al., 2011). Even if peatlands are distributed worldwide, the largest areas are in North America and North Eurasia, whereas in South Europe they are in regression (Vasander et al., 2003; Yu et al., 2011). Indeed peatlands are protected by the European Council Habitat Directive (Council Directive 92/43/EEC of 21 May 1992 on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora). One primary objective of nature conservation is the maintenance of genetic diversity, which implies the need to acquire information about intraspecific genetic variation in populations of endangered/vulnerable species (Reed & Frankham, 2003).

  • A Comparison of PCR-Based Markers for the Molecular Identification of Sphagnum Species of the Section Acutifolia
Acta Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae Journal homepage: pbsociety.org.pl/journals/index.php/asbp ORIGINAL RESEARCH PAPER Received: 2010.05.18 Accepted: 2010.07.23 Published electronically: 2011.07.29 Acta Soc Bot Pol 80(3):185-192 DOI: 10.5586/asbp.2011.017 A comparison of PCR-based markers for the molecular identification of Sphagnum species of the section Acutifolia Jakub Sawicki*, Monika Szczecińska Department of Botany and Nature Protection, University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Plac Łódzki 1, 10-727 Olsztyn, Poland Abstract RAPDs, ISJs, ISSRs, ITS and katGs were applied to determine genetic relationships between common Sphagnum species of the section Acutifolia. Twenty populations were genotyped using ten ISJ primers, 12 pairs of katG primers, 10 ISSR and 10 RAPD primers, and a restriction analysis of ITS1 and ITS2. ISSR and katG markers revealed the greatest number of species-specific bands. An analysis of ITS1 and ITS2 regions with restriction enzymes also proved to be a highly effective tool for species identification.
