Marine - Mechanical – Seattle Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) is seeking an experienced marine/mechanical engineer to join its team of professionals. EBDG is an employee-owned firm providing unparalleled , marine and production support services on behalf of owners, operators, and shipyards across the country.

The candidate who fills this role will provide marine and design development of new commercial vessel designs, and modification and support of existing vessels. This individual will also be able to conduct analysis and develop technically detailed reports pertaining to marine systems selection, particularly propulsion configuration related selection studies. Work will primarily be in our Seattle office with frequent travel for field engineering, troubleshooting, testing and physically demanding inspections aboard ships and in shipyards. Our team-based approach empowers staff to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary group. You will be working closely with a team of experienced naval architects, marine , electrical engineers and marine designers.

The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:

• Three or more years of experience in commercial vessel design and a BS degree in or Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering or a related degree. • Experience designing all aspects of shipboard systems including equipment sizing and selection and the design of fire and sprinkler systems, cargo piping, bilge and ballast systems, HVAC, main propulsion and rudders and steering systems. • Familiarity with USCG inspected vessel regulations, SOLAS, MARPOL and class society rules. • Experience developing contract technical specifications, purchase specifications and test and trials memos for new vessel design, and existing vessel modifications and repair. • Experience as an operating engineer, port engineer or shipyard experience is a plus. • Experience supporting common shipyard activities such as inspecting the installation of structure, outfit and systems or participating in tests and trials is a plus. • Skilled in the use of AutoCAD, Rhino and Microsoft Word and Excel is strongly desired.

An ability to travel with little notice is a must for this position. The successful candidate will have excellent writing and oral communication skills. Writing reports and contract specifications is required. Must be a self-starter. A career-oriented individual will have already passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and intends to obtain a Professional Engineers license when qualified.
