uropean talent came to the fore at the 46th annual EInternational Emmy Awards on Monday held in New York City. Shows from the UK, Germany, Spain, Belgium and Portugal all took home the big prizes at the ceremony held at the New York Hilton Midtown and hosted by comedian Hari Kondabolu. In all, the 11 awards went to actors and programs from 10 countries. Danish star Lars Mikkelsen (House of Cards, Sherlock) won the best performance by an actor award for his role as priest Johannes in the religious drama Herrens Veje (Ride Upon the Storm). The drama, created by Alex Pina, focuses on an elaborate multi-day raid on the Royal Mint of Spain. The BBC picked up the best doc award for its harrow- ing Syria-war documentary Goodbye Aleppo, as well as the best TV movie/miniseries prize for multi-generation drama Man in an Orange Shirt, starring Vanessa Redgrave and written by Patrick Gale. The gala event also saw two special awards presented. Fox Television Group chairman and CEO, Dana Walden presented the International Emmy Directorate Award to Sophie Turner Laing, CEO of Endemol Shine Group. And Blindspot star Sullivan Stapleton and producer Julie Plec presented the International Emmy Founders Award to prolific writer- director-producer Greg Berlanti.
