Palavras-chave: Mighty Sounds, Punk, Música, Festivais de Verão, República Checa, Praga 3 Abstract Although Punk has emerged in the late 70s as a revolutionary counter-culture that opposed the prevailing social values of English society, the industry quickly absorbed this social movement.

  • Forever the Black Smoke Blows in Krems’ [Auto-Translated from German]
Kramar, Thomas. ‘Forever the black smoke blows in Krems’ [Auto-translated from German]. Die Presse Online. 26 April 2018 Forever the black smoke blows in Krems In the nineties it was in vogue to state ends. Today one fears the "endless present": this is the motto of this year's Danube Festival. How postmodern is that? Or is it again - modern? The virtual source never runs dry: "Western Flag (Spindletop, Texas)", video by John Gerrard. – © Danube Festival It was an anticipated, much-anticipated eruption: on January 10, 1901, oil spewed from a well at Spindletop Hill (southeast Texas), yes: to splash. Two months later, the nearby town of Beaumont was a boomtown and its population tripled. The Irish artist John Gerrard recalls the time when oil spilled on Spindletop Hill. In his video installation "Western Flag (Spindletop, Texas)" he simulates that this source would never run dry, would never run out, but only bring more dirt, not juice for traffic and industry: black smoke is constantly pouring out of the jets, into shape a flag. Gerrard suggests a trivial interpretation. "Among the greatest legacies of the 20th century are not only the population explosion and the better living conditions, but also the significantly increased CO2 concentrations in the atmosphere," he writes: "This flag gives this invisible gas, this international danger, a picture, a way to represent oneself. " Heaven is where nothing happens Thomas Edlinger, Director of the Danube Festival, now places Gerrard's video installation in Krems in a new context of meaning - as an illustration of this year's theme: "Endless Presence".

  • Roots Radical – Place, Power and Practice in Punk Entrepreneurship Sarah Louise Drakopoulou Dodd
Roots radical – Place, power and practice in punk entrepreneurship Sarah Louise Drakopoulou Dodd The significance continues to grow of scholarship that embraces critical and contextualized entrepreneurship, seeking rich explorations of diverse entrepreneurship contexts. Following these influences, this study explores the potentialized context of punk entrepreneurship. The Punk Rock band Rancid has a 20-year history of successfully creating independent musical and related creative enterprises from the margins of the music industry. The study draws on artefacts, interviews and videos created by and around Rancid to identify and analyse this example of marginal, alternative entrepreneurship. A three-part analytic frame was applied to analysing these artefacts. Place is critical to Rancid’s enterprise, grounding the band socially, culturally, geographically and politically. Practice also plays an important role with Rancid’s activities encompassing labour, making music, movement and human interactions. The third, and most prevalent, dimension of alterity is that of power which includes data related to dominance, subordination, exclusion, control and liberation. Rancid’s entrepreneurial story is depicted as cycles, not just a linear journey, but following more complicated paths – from periphery to centre, and back again; returning to roots, whilst trying to move forwards too; grounded in tradition but also radically focused on dramatic change. Paradox, hybridized practices, and the significance of marginal place as a rich resource also emerged from the study. Keywords: entrepreneurship; social construction; punk rock; paradox; marginality; periphery Special thanks are due to all the punks and skins who have engaged with my reading of the Rancid story, and given me so much support and feedback along the way, especially Rancid’s drummer, Branden Steineckert, Jesse from Machete Manufacturing, Kostis, Tassos (Rancid Punx Athens Crew) and Panayiotis.

More recently the technology has evolved into a range of beautiful and slender amplifiers that quickly earned 42 admiring glances for their stylish looks and versatility, Sonus faber as well as audiophile acknowledgments for their Olympica II spectacular performance. 55 Regular readers will no doubt recognise our cover star Arcam as the Devialet Ensemble hi-fi system that was the lead airDAC Audiofile news story last month. Hi-Fi Choice is proud to be the first hi-fi magazine in the world to get its hands on this perfectly balanced and sophisticated system. As any reader will know, combining hi-fi components is a considerable art form, but Devialet has done all the hard work for you with its Ensemble system, matching its entry-level Devialet integrated amplifier, now upgraded to 120 following the new software announced at the High 100 End Hi-Fi Show in Munich last month – see our Show Report, on page 84 – with Atohm GT1 SE speakers.
