THE ALBA COUNTY (SUBREGION NUTS 3) AS AN EXAMPLE OF A SUCCESSFUL TRANSFORMATION- CASE STUDY REPORT Authors: Daniela-Luminita Constantin – project scientific coordinator Zizi Goschin – WP6, Task 3 responsible Team member contributors: Constantin Mitrut, Constanta Bodea, Bogdan Ileanu, Raluca Grosu, Amalia Cristescu The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under grant agreement “Growth-Innovation- Competitiveness: Fostering Cohesion in Central and Eastern Europe” (GRNCOH) 1 1. Introduction The report is devoted to assessment of current regional development in Alba county, as well as its specific responses to transformation, crisis and EU membership. Geographical and Historical Review Based on the Correlation: Age – Genetic Type Raisa ŢĂRUȘ1, Vasile SURD 1 1 Babeş-Bolyai University, Faculty of Geography, Centre on Research of Settlements and Urbanism, Cluj-Napoca, ROMANIA E-mail: [email protected], [email protected] K e y w o r d s: Transylvania region, genetic type of town, urban settlement, historical period, documentary attestation A B S T R A C T The evolution of towns in Transylvania is studied along time relying on the hi storical documents of the region, the geographical space framing of the towns and the proofs of humanity influence over years. These geographical - historical characteristics of the Transylvanian region have generated through the historical periods the existence of a land with comprehensive meaning of the geographical space. In this context, the topic of our study discovers the birth of each town and his evolution over the years, its importance and functions in each historical period. In order to achieve a better knowledge about the geographical-historical evolution of towns in Transylvania we have identified and analyzed the differences between the ages of different towns referring to their first documentary attestation. Then, we deduced the three genetic types of towns in Transylvania region that can be divided into three categories: fortress and citadel, fair and primary resource town. The correlation between the ages of towns and their genetic type is performed, resulting in a novel approach for the geographical - historical research in the evolution of a town from the Transylvania region. -

A FLANGED-AXE DISCOVERED AT PETREȘTI-DEALUL NETOTU (ALBA COUNTY) AND SOME REMARQUES ABOUT THE DETECTORISTS Abstract: Starting from a recent discovery realized in the area of Petrești (Petersdorf, Sebeș, Alba County), the present study try to add new data to Marius-Mihai CIUTĂ the bibliography of the end of Copper Age and Early Bronze Age on the Sebeș ”Lucian Blaga” University, Sibiu River Valley, as well as regarding the phenomenon of metal detection on the [email protected] Romanian territory. The subject is not a new one, but it captures a paradigm shift in the case of the authors, in what we can define as: the management Radu TOTOIANU of the relations between public institutions of the Romanian State and ”Ioan Raica” Museum, Sebeș, owners of metal detectors interested of using these devices to discover [email protected] archaeological artifacts. The most correct - deontological and moral - would be that the central idea to which we must refer permanently when we talk about this phenomenon, be that of the primordial attention paid to the DOI: 10.14795/j.v7i3.551 context and the artifact i.e. the Cultural Heritage. As long as the legislation ISSN 2360 – 266X still in function, does not unequivocally define the concept of ”fortuitous (accidental) discovery”, and archaeological sites (at least those that are known ISSN–L 2360 – 266X officially!) are not signalized, marked and delimited, according to low (!), public representatives and archaeologists will be put frequently in the situation to find ”emergency solutions” which must have in the central plan the idea of protecting the archaeological heritage. -

Structural Arguments in the Analysis and Conservation of Some Romanesque Churches in Romania
Structural Analysis of Historical Constructions, New Delhi 2006 P.B. Lourenço, P. Roca, C. Modena, S. Agrawal (Eds.) Structural Arguments in the Analysis and Conservation of Some Romanesque Churches in Romania L. Roşiu University “Politehnica” of Timişoara, Faculty of Architecture, Department of Architecture, Timişoara, Romania ABSTRACT: One of the most interesting categories of historical monuments in Romania is that of the early medieval churches. However much studied, their evolutions still have been incom- pletely clarified. The structural analysis can offer some answers in the controversy about their history, discovering the patterns and specific features. From the prototypes of the Romanesque churches, there were chosen to be analysed the most significant cases of small single nave churches from the 13th century, trying to emphasize the importance of the structural analysis for their evolutions and for the conservation solutions. 1 STRUCTURAL FEATURES AS HISTORICAL RESEARCH ELEMENTS 1.1 Importance of structural analysis Archaeology and sometimes ancient authors’ writings or stylistic analyses are often sources of information about the evolution of a historical monument. Archaeology is considered an indis- pensable way, especially in dating the cultural heritage and discovering how it was transformed. It also decodes the architectural form, their migration and influences, but can not explain them. Different skilled domains may complete the knowledge in order to understand the monuments and to ground their protection. One of them is the structural study, which tries to find the constructive thinking and how it has generated a certain architectural form. It also can help to solve some of the central problems of any study, like that of the genesis and of the influences. -

Harness Fittings from the 7Th–8Th Centuries Discovered in Transylvania
HARNESS FITTINGS FROM THE 7TH–8TH CENTURIES DISCOVERED IN TRANSYLVANIA. STIRRUPS AND HORSE BITS Călin Cosma1 Abstract: On the territory of Transylvania I have recorded 15settlements where stirrups have been discovered (Tab. 1–2). I have recorded 13 settlements where bits were discovered. In four of them the bits were found in Gepidic-Avar cemeteries (Tab. 3–4). A series of items used for the distribution of harness straps and buckles for the harness leathers were discovered in horse graves or in graves with horses from 7th–8th century Transylvania that belonged to the Avars. Fragments of iron sets and plates of various sizesfrom the metal structure of horse saddles had been deposited in the grave from Unirea 2/Veresmort and in the graves with horses from Șpălnaca. Horse saddles certainly existed in many more inhumation graves from Transylvania but have not been preserved. It should be noted that both stirrups and bits were found in most graves that contained different types of weapons or other military equipment accessories. Keywords: Transylvania, Avars, Stirrups, Horse bits Early Midle age. Introductory clarifications The harness items dated in the th7 –8th centuries discovered in Transylvania, have not benefited so far from a repertoire and an exhaustive analysis of them in the specialized literature of Transylvania. Such research, which I developed during this scientific endeavor, is absolutely necessary in the historiography of Transylvania, which studies the early Middle Ages. The harness parts that will be analyzed are represented by: Stirrups, Bits, Harness strap distributors and buckles and Horse saddle. We took into account only those itms that were dis‑ covered in sites and archaeological complexes in Transylvania attributed to the Avar and Slavic tribes. From the Gepido‑Avar cemeteries, we cataloged only the Avar graves or the horse tombs with archaeological material specific to the Avar ethnic group. -
