Footnotes No Footnotes No. 3 for 2018/19 Round 3 of Shield for this season has been completed and Ballarat Harriers has had two more division wins. The Veteran’s team was strengthened with new athlete Conrad Oberholzer dominating the competition winning the 200 metres in 26.97, the high jump with a jump of 1.45 metres and the triple jump with 8.90 metres. Conrad then went on to run a brilliant leg of the 4x100 metres relay in which Harriers knocked off their main rivals, Wendouree. Welcome to the club Conrad, you are very welcome if you keep winning like that! Harriers finished the day with 5916 points to Wendouree’s 3337. Well done Vet’s team! Our U14 boys had another close and good win scoring 1626 points to Wendouree’s 1537. With such a close margin, every single result was important in getting the boy’s over the line. Well done to Matt O’Brien, Ryan Hovey, Oaklee Burge and Will Roberts. The U16 girls finished a close second to YCW 1486 to 1270 points while the U18 boys were second to Wendouree, 2851 to 1361 points. It was great to see Grace O’Dwyer have her first run for the season finishing third Conrad Oberholzer had his first run in the 200 metres (26.47) behind training with the club, a very successful debut winning the Veteran’s 200 partners Holly Dobbyn and Tara metres, high jump and triple jump Domaschenz from the Eureka Athletics before being a member of the winning 4x100 metres relay Club. 1 Grace O’Dwyer chasing Tara Angie Selkirk finishing off her 200 Domaschenz in the 200 metres metres Angie Selkirk had another good meet winning the U16 200 metres in 28.72 and triple jump with 8.86 metres. Lavinia Male is enjoying her first season coming in third in the U16 200 metres (30.76), winning the discus with a throw of 15.76 metres and finishing second in the triple jump with 7.79 metres. New U14 athlete Ella Sandford had a win in the discus with a throw of 14.46 metres and ran a solid 200 metres to finish in 32.23. Her U14 team mate Chloe Kinnersly was second in both the 200 metres (30.42) and triple jump (8.19 metres). We saw some excellent performances in the Veteran’s age group on Saturday. I have already mentioned Conrad Oberholzer’s amazing day. Second behind Conrad in the 200 metres was Steve McCulloch (26.97) and also the high jump (1.45metres) despite carrying an ankle injury. Paul Burge ran a competitive 3000 metres to finish fourth in 10:35.73 and Kevin Ruddick won the 3000 metres race walk with a time of 21:35. We saw Andrew Green win both the throwing events, discus with 27.96 metres and hammer with 32.35 metres. Jamie Lawlor finished second in the discus with 22.99 metres and third in the hammer with 23.98 metres. Kevin Ruddick strides out in Paul Burge during his 3000 Vin Duffy finishing strongly the 3000 metres Walk metres in the 3000 metres We have been struggling for numbers in the Open division, but Liam Hanrahan is performing well in a one man act. Liam won the 200 metres with a strong run of 25.38 and backed up with an 800 metres of 2:05.80 for the fourth fastest time of the day. In the U18 division James Oro posted a 24.91 200 metres to be second. His team mate Liam Ray was third with 25.15. Liam finished second in the U18 discus with a throw of 19.80 and jumped 1.40 metres in the high jump to win. U16 athlete Jake Ashmore jumped 1.55 metres to win his high jump division. He also ran his 200 metres in 24.21 for a great U16 win, the second fastest time of the day. The winning U14 team had Matt O’Brien win his 200 metres in 25.09 and come second to team mate Ryan Hovey in the triple jump with a jump of 9.54 metres. Ryan won the triple jump with 10.46 metres as well as winning the discus with 17.93 metres. Will Roberts won the 1500 metres Walk and was fourth in both the discus and triple jump while Oaklee Burge ran his 800 metres in 2:52.70 to finish fourth. As I mentioned earlier, without any one of these performances, the U14 team wouldn’t have got home. It is so important to compete in as many events as possible. The U18 4x100 metres relay team, Liam Ray, The Vet’s 4x100 metres relay team, Vin Duffy, Jake Ashmore, James Oro and Matt O’Brien Peter Roberts, Conrad Oberholzer and Steve McCulloch The last event on the program was the 4x100 metres relay. We entered a Vet’s team made up of two sprinters and two reluctant distance runners, and an U18 team made up four sprinters but one was 13 y.o. and one was 14 y.o! The U18 team ran superbly well to take out the race in a great time of 48.39, just outside the Harrier’s record. In the Vet’s relay the “young” speedsters, Conrad Oberholzer and Steve McCulloch ran excellent legs to make up for the lack of pace of the opening runner! The team finished in 58.73 to easily defeat Wendouree. Many thanks to Vin Duffy for running the second leg. Chloe Kinnersly and Lavinia Conrad Oberholzer in his Will Roberts in the Walk 200 metres Male go stride for stride School Sports Victoria Track and Field Championships On Monday, October 22, Harriers Jake Ashmore and Casey Farquhar represented Ballarat High School at the School Sports Victoria championships and brought home medals. Jake finished second in his 400 metres in 52.47 seconds to claim silver. He then backed with a bronze in the 100 metres in a time of 11.71. Casey Farquhar on the presentation Jake then ran a leg of the 4x100 metres relay dais with Georgia Laven (Lilydale that finished third. High School), 1st and Amy McKinley (Brighton Secondary Casey was unlucky to just finish second in her College), 3rd 400 metres in a photo finish and personal best time of 58.47. She was pipped on the line by Georgia Laven from Lilydale High School who ran 58.44. She then ran second in the 800 metres finishing second in 2:20.29, another personal best. Well done to both Jake and Casey. I have listed all the results in date order from earliest to latest. To start the ball rolling, a couple of recent Geelong Walkers Club results from Corio, thanks to Harold Boddy. GEELONG WALKERS CLUB EVENTS, HOLDSWORTHY ATHLETICS TRACK, CORIO, THUR 26 NOVEMBER 2009 There were some excellent performances in last Thursday’s 1500m & 800m walk events to handicap times. Harold Boddy broke his handicap times in both races to take overall honours. Michelle DeGraaf’s experience enabled her to also beat both her handicap times to finish only one second behind in 2nd place. Veteran Barbara Fairbrother also figured strongly in the results finishing a further six seconds back. 40 plus walker, James Seid-Christmass continued his fine form setting the fastest time of 6:55 in the 1500m leg and thus breaking the club’s record for that age group by seven seconds - a record that has stood for 20 years. Other walkers who also performed well were Angela Curran, Mark Wiffen, Jade Lockwood and Colin Silcock-Delaney.

  • AUSTRALIAN MASTERS ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS Melbourne 2019
Queensland Race Walking Club Inc. Building on a fine tradition of race walking, 63 years in the making. HEEL & TOE February 7th 2019 Australian 20km Race Walking Championship AA Preview The 2019 Australian 20km Walk Championships in Adelaide this Sunday will feature the return to competition for Olympic medallists Jared Tallent and Dane Bird-Smith and the graduation to senior competition for two of the finest teenage walkers Australia have produced. The Australian’s will battle a quality line-up of internationals, providing excellent competition for the Aussies. Since Rio Olympic medallist Dane Bird-Smith (Q) won gold at the Commonwealth Games in April, he has competed just once, in an international race in China in September. But such is the standard of the race in Adelaide on Sunday, he will need to be in close to top-form just to place in the top-three. In particular he faces 2017 world champion, Columbia’s Eider Arevalo who owns a personal best of 1:18:53. A group of nearly 10 others are either sub-1:22 athletes or have placed top-30 at the World Championships or Olympics. Some to watch include: New Zealand record holder Quentin Rew, Rio Olympic top-15 athletes Evan Dunfee (CAN) and Ever Palma (MEX) and finally sub-1:21 pair Perseus Karlstrom (SWE) and Artur Brzozowski (POL). It is 23 months since London Olympic champion Jared Tallent (V) has competed. The great news is he is fit and healthy and will be using Adelaide’s race as a key build up competition for a 50km race walk in Slovakia in March.
