Newsletter Title Issue 2 - April, 2007 New State Relay Record at Nationals Champs By Steve Crocker In finishing a close second to Tasmania in the men's 170+ 4 x 100 relay, Alan Carey, John Van Stappen, Steve Crocker and Greg Hepburn set a new NSW 50-54 years 4 x 100 metre state record in running 49.13 seconds despite some mediocre baton changes. Just as pleasing was the way we pushed Tassie all the way despite being an average of 11+ years per man older (at 220 years combined). I have listed all the results in date order from earliest to latest. To start the ball rolling, a couple of recent Geelong Walkers Club results from Corio, thanks to Harold Boddy. GEELONG WALKERS CLUB EVENTS, HOLDSWORTHY ATHLETICS TRACK, CORIO, THUR 26 NOVEMBER 2009 There were some excellent performances in last Thursday’s 1500m & 800m walk events to handicap times. Harold Boddy broke his handicap times in both races to take overall honours. Michelle DeGraaf’s experience enabled her to also beat both her handicap times to finish only one second behind in 2nd place. Veteran Barbara Fairbrother also figured strongly in the results finishing a further six seconds back. 40 plus walker, James Seid-Christmass continued his fine form setting the fastest time of 6:55 in the 1500m leg and thus breaking the club’s record for that age group by seven seconds - a record that has stood for 20 years. Other walkers who also performed well were Angela Curran, Mark Wiffen, Jade Lockwood and Colin Silcock-Delaney.

  • Footnotes No
Footnotes No. 3 for 2018/19 Round 3 of Shield for this season has been completed and Ballarat Harriers has had two more division wins. The Veteran’s team was strengthened with new athlete Conrad Oberholzer dominating the competition winning the 200 metres in 26.97, the high jump with a jump of 1.45 metres and the triple jump with 8.90 metres. Conrad then went on to run a brilliant leg of the 4x100 metres relay in which Harriers knocked off their main rivals, Wendouree. Welcome to the club Conrad, you are very welcome if you keep winning like that! Harriers finished the day with 5916 points to Wendouree’s 3337. Well done Vet’s team! Our U14 boys had another close and good win scoring 1626 points to Wendouree’s 1537. With such a close margin, every single result was important in getting the boy’s over the line. Well done to Matt O’Brien, Ryan Hovey, Oaklee Burge and Will Roberts. The U16 girls finished a close second to YCW 1486 to 1270 points while the U18 boys were second to Wendouree, 2851 to 1361 points. It was great to see Grace O’Dwyer have her first run for the season finishing third Conrad Oberholzer had his first run in the 200 metres (26.47) behind training with the club, a very successful debut winning the Veteran’s 200 partners Holly Dobbyn and Tara metres, high jump and triple jump Domaschenz from the Eureka Athletics before being a member of the winning 4x100 metres relay Club.
