From the Mass of Investiture 3 This booklet contains some reflections that could help guide the monthly meetings of the Delegations, Sections, Lieutenancies across the world and, at the same time, our personal prayer. Inspired by the words of the Grand Master, Cardinal Edwin O’Brien, we want to touch on the main points of our mission and calling as members of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre and we hope to do so communally: within our local realities as well as globally – in the knowledge that from Taiwan to Norway and from Alaska to South Africa the Knights and Dames are praying in communion; but also individually. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus calls us to live the life He lived. Read along in Matthew, chapters 5 through 7, for a portrait of Christ, a portrait indeed that through grace, He would like to paint in each of us! Beginning with the Beatitudes, the DNA of the Christian life, the Sermon challenges us with teachings and standards, which only the saints would find practical, and achievable only through the daily graces of God. Investiture celebrations and regional lieutenancy gatherings have offered me reassuring evidence of our Order’s rich devotion to God and to good works on behalf of Christians in the Holy Land. Hopefully, our pace slackens a bit during these summer days, perhaps offering some moments of interior spiritual renewal. Might we add to our summer reading list a daily few minutes with the New Testament and a prayerful meditation on the Sermon on the Mount? Hornbake This dissertation is an exploration of associational life in central Italy, an examination of organizations that were central to the everyday experience of tens of thousands of Italians at a time when social, economic and geographical transformations were upending their everyday lives, 1945-1968. This dissertation examines facets of these transformations: the changing shape of cities, increasing mobility of people, technological changes that made possible new media and new cultural forms, from the perspective of local associations. The many lively groups, the cultural circles and case del popolo of central Italy were critical sites where members encountered new ideas, navigated social change, and experimented with alternative cultures. But Bishop Kevin Vann elevated the ordina- tions of four priests by offering his refl ection on fi ve profoundly simple words: “I am a Catholic priest.” Thomas Kennedy, Raymond McDaniel, Isaac Orozco, and Jon- athan Wallis entered the Order of Presbyter July 7, and the Diocese of Fort Worth received its largest group of newly ordained priests since its founding in1969. Enthu- siasm for the event had reached all parts of the diocese, such that the viewing of the event had to be extended to an additional room in the Fort Worth Convention Center, where the liturgy was projected on a huge screen. ON THE 30th ANNIVERSARY OF HIS DEATH* Josip KAJINIĆ** On the thirtieth anniversary of Cardinal Franjo Šeper’s death, this work presents some better and lesser-known facts and events from his life. Besides these facts, there is an analysis of Šeper’s role, both in the Catholic Church in Croatia and in the world. Certain aspects which have not thus far been sufficiently taken into consideration concerning Šeper’s activities are examined.     Here in the Vatican, you are, in a certain way, at home “Here in the Vatican, you are, in a certain way, at home, as you constitute an ancient Pontifical institution under the protection of the Holy See.”[1] These affectionate words, which Pope Francis addressed to the Members of the Consulta of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem on November 16, 2018, emphasise its identity and mission. The Order, by its very nature, is an instrument for the specific activities of the Holy See for the maintenance of the Latin Church in the Holy Land. This characteristic that our “ancient Pontifical institution”[2] has always had is now specified in the Statutes approved by Pope Francis on May 11, 2020, with the specific mention of “Central Body of the Church”[3], highlighting the constitutive contribution of the Order in the service of the Holy See in the government of the universal Church. Indeed, since time immemorial, «the Order has participated directly in the Holy See’s concern for the holy places and has embraced the Catholic institutions which work on the ground, as expressions of the Body of Christ present in the most vibrant reality: families, children, school pupils, pilgrims, works of charity and places of worship. We understand, then, the reason why the Holy Father wished to formally explain that the Order is a Central Body of the Catholic Church, that it has a public legal status in the canonical Order and that it is a legal entity of the Vatican.”[4] It is therefore necessary to rightly underline the ecclesial and pastoral character of this statutory clarification, because of the purposes of the Order.

Bransom, Jr. INTRODUCTION he study of apostolic succession and episcopal lineages has long fascinated students of church history. It was not until the middle T of the twentieth century, however, that a systematic attempt was made to trace and catalogue the consecrations of bishops on a world-wide basis. A small group of researchers has catalogued the consecrations of tens of thou­ sands of bishops dating back many centuries. The fruits of their labors--labors that are on going-have resulted in a database, which can trace the episcopal lineage of any living bishop and the vast majority of deceased bishops. In 1984, I began a project on the episcopal ordinations of bishops of re­ ligious orders and congregations. One fruit of that work was a study of the ordi­ nations of Salesian bishops, Les Eveques Salesiens. The present work updates, corrects and expands the 1984 study. In 1984, the episcopal ordinations of 130 bishops were presented. This study contains the details of 196 bishops. The text has been expanded to include the episcopal lineages of the bishops. Of the 196 bishops in this study, 183 trace their orders to Scipione Re­ biba, who was appointed Auxiliary Bishop ofChieti in 1541. The Rebiban suc­ cession is the major episcopal line in the contemporary Catholic episcopate.
