NAB Ensures the Future Shines Bright for Auskick in 2010 NAB ensures the future shines bright for Auskick in 2010 The 2010 NAB AFL Auskick season is underway with Victoria set to reach a record 50,000 participants across 680 centres. The NAB AFL Auskick Program continues to grow and for their fifth year now, NAB is once again supporting the community based AFL football program. The NAB AFL Auskick Program for 2010 is gearing up for a record season and there are three major programs to look out for – NAB AFL Auskicker of the year, NAB Footy Frenzy and the NAB AFL Auskick Centre of the year, each with great prizes. If you are not already involved in your local NAB AFL Auskick Program, it is never too late to get involved, more information is available at www.aflauskick.com.au . NAB AFL AUSKICKER OF THE YEAR Do you know a possible NAB AFL Auskicker of the Year? Enter your nominee on the NAB Auskick website. The NAB AFL Auskicker of the Year competition consists of 22 winners with one child being nominated for each of the 22 rounds of the AFL season. The winning child will have the opportunity to play at half time of the Saturday Night match that week and be interviewed live on Network Ten. They also play at half time of the AFL Grand Final and present a premiership medallion to the winning team on the day. If all that is not enough they are also in the running with the other 21 winners from each round to win a $5,000 portfolio from NAB and have Joel Selwood (Geelong Cats) as their mentor in 2011. NAB FOOTY FRENZY You could be holding a footy worth $1,000. The NAB is responsible for the NAB Footy Frenzy competition involving 50,000 individually numbered footballs being distributed to NAB AFL Auskick centres across Australia. Centres need to register the numbers of their footballs on the website and then each round of the home and away season a football number is randomly selected with the winning centre receiving a $1000 award saver account from NAB. NAB AFL AUSKICK CENTRE OF THE YEAR What makes your Auskick centre stand out in 2010? Submit an entry and each round of the AFL home and away season one lucky NAB AFL Auskick Centre will receive a $1,000 resource kit for their centre. The kits contain tackle bags, footballs, markers, and much more. The overall winner at the end of the season will receive a NAB AFL Auskick Super Clinic with AFL Stars and Ambassadors valued at $15,000. The NAB AFL Auskick Centre of the Year is where the stars of today meet the stars of tomorrow. To enter any or all of these three NAB AFL Auskick programs, please visit the website at nab.com.au/Auskick. With these three programs it is set to be an exciting year for NAB AFL Auskick in 2010. Everyone is equal – united by their love of the game’.1 ustralian football is a strange paradox – for a game that is played almost exclusively in one part of the globe it is able to transcend cultural barriers and ethnic divides and Abring communities together. Australian Football League (AFL) CEO Andrew Demetriou said: “The game invites us all to be involved. We estimate we have more than 20 nationalities represented on our current playing lists and we are certain that this will continue to rise into the future as we welcome more people from more communities to the AFL.”2 The fact is more people are flocking to participate in Australian football than any other football code in Australia. A total of 539,526 registered participants played football in 2005 (a 4.6 % rise from 2004), and membership of the 16 AFL clubs reached a record 506,509 in 2005, the first time the 500,000 mark has been surpassed.3 Spectator support at games is also at record highs – the attendance record for the Toyota AFL premiership season of 6.28 million was set in 2005, up six per cent on 2004 figures. In addition, total attendances for the Wizard Home Loans Cup, Toyota AFL premiership season and Toyota AFL finals series passed seven million for the first time.4 On average, 4.02 million people watched AFL matches on television in 2005 (up 1.2 per cent on 2004), and the 2005 AFL grand final between the Sydney Swans and the West Coast Eagles was the most-watched television program in Australia that year, with an average audience in the five mainland capital cities of 3.386 million people.5 Like the spectacular marks which signify the game – Australian football is flying high.
