Tiling has been one of the most important aesthetic manifestation of creator spirit and Iranian artists’ aesthetic, and plant designs used in the seven-color tile are evidence for this claim. Plant designs are beautiful and simple. Despite diversity, they have unity and cohesion. The aim of this paper is to introduce seven-color tiling and plant designs used. In this study, we examined the cedar, Khataei, and pot designs. The, we will respond to this question: 1- what are the features of plant designs? Methodology Library method and content analysis method were used in this study. Library method was used as the main tool to collect data and note taking and video documents were also used in this regard. Various technological innovations have emerged as a result of numerous researches related primarily to advanced materials. While impressive changes were seen in industrial fields, art has also been influenced by technology. Ceramics, known as the oldest plastic art, has always been affected by both social and industrial changes, because it is both an art and also a science. Ceramics has a wide range of uses in science which are directly related to its applications in industry such as paint, textiles, automotive products, and construction. As an art, ceramics has a very different application including cultural approaches. Art tiles are one of the most outstanding examples of ceramics art. Consisting of specific figures, motifs, and colors, art tiles have a significant place in both Turkish and Islamic art. Technology has never been able to find a way to change the cultural mentality, so this art has protected its privilege for centuries. This study discusses the effects of technology on ceramic art and evaluates the current status of Turkish art tiles. [email protected] Abstract: The Islamic civilization are distinct for using the art of geometry in their creative designs. In the early Islamic period, designs used simple forms like square shape, gradually more geometrical transformations are applied such as; shapes subtraction, addition, subdivisions, branching and rotation. The aim of this study is to show that the fractal geometrical shape, with the feature “self-similarity, infinite number of iterations for shapes with reducing scale, in finite region ”is one of the most influential elements in the Islamic design and consequently has its beneficial effects on the occupiers of Islamic interior environment. This study analyzed the existence of fractal shapes in the Islamic design with finite number of iterations since the old centuries through analyzing El Sultan Hassan mosque in Cairo, Egypt (1356-1362) as a case study. The fractal shapes are used in the Islamic design of the walls, ceiling, doors, domes and floors. The study also suggested a new contemporary Islamic golden and non-golden fractal shapes with large number of iterations to be generated by using the computer technology that can be used in the interior design. The Islamic fractal design acts as a strong stimulus to the brain generating strong emotions in very short time. -

American International Journal of Humanities and Social Science Vol. 4 No. 2; April 2018 Desert Utopia: The Hidden Unity of Iranian Architecture Conceptualization behind the Making of a Documentary Film Khosrow Bozorgi Professor of Architecture and Urban Design Director, Center for Middle Eastern Architecture and Culture College of Architecture, University of Oklahoma United States of America NARRATIVE Desert Utopia will examine the history of architecture in three desert cities in Iran, exploring unique aspects of the built environment that enabled people to flourish in one of the world’s harshest climates. Although the film will focus on the history of Iranian desert architecture spanning thousands of years, this project is nevertheless timely for today’s American audiences. Due to concerns about global environmental change, sustainable building techniques have emerged as a topic of increasing interest over the past two decades. This interest encompasses themes such as the use of local building materials, creative ways to minimize water use (and water waste), and ways to reduce the amount of energy spent on heating and cooling. Furthermore, the geopolitics of the last two decades also have piqued Americans’ curiosity about the Middle East, especially Iran, but for many people, their knowledge about this part of the world is spotty or even misinformed. Desert Utopia is therefore a film that comes at the right time: It will help satisfy Americans’ curiosity about environmentally sound architecture while filling some of the gaps in their knowledge about Iranian culture and history. However, Desert Utopia is more than simply a film about sustainable architecture in Iranian history. -

Abstract Certain proportions can be observed in creation and design of nature various forms. These proportions are geometrical relationships that are immaterial in origin and follow the spiritual and supernatural principles of their subject sacredness and have symbolic language and spiritual characteristics. Geometry was inseparable from other four Pythagorean sciences in traditional world, including geometric relationships, arithmetic (number), music and astronomy. We always need geometry knowledge in order to construct a building from first steps to final steps. Using proportions is particularly important because of creating visual aesthetic in visual and architectural arts, and almost all artworks are based on some form of proportion. This research tries to decode the work and find the aim and true purpose of its creator in responding the hypothesis that architect knowledge of geometry and his creative use facilitates the conversion of concept into space and form in designing process and minimizes concept erosion of process through studying architecture, geometry and existing proportions. Creating an islamic sense of place: Building conversion and the american mosque Garrett N. Fugate University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas ABSTRACT: As an anomaly within the religious and ethnic landscapes of the United States, the American mosque serves as an intriguing focus from which to understand the construction of sacred spaces and religious identities. In this study, buildings converted into mosques were hypothesized to have a “vernacular intuitiveness” of the essential place attributes of the faith of Islam. These converted places of worship are common in Muslim communities in the United States, yet understudied. This study investigated eight of these mosques in Kansas and Missouri, relying on primary data gathered through site observations and interviews. Comparing and contrasting data from each mosque lead to an understanding towards intuitive and necessary elements to the creation of an Islamic sense of place. This was in large part defined by the accommodation of Islamic ritual and the fundamentals of faith. Differences between the mosques revealed diverse communities arriving at varying answers to these fundamentals as well as to conceptions of gender and the role of ethnic identity. Designing mosques in the American context must include an understanding of Muslim-Americans’ collective soul-searching and the intuitive ways identities are asserted through architecture. The Seljuks of Anatolia: An Epigraphic Study Abstract This is a study of the monumental epigraphy of the Anatolian Seljuk Sultanate, also known as the Sultanate of Rum, which emerged in Anatolia following the Great Seljuk victory in Manzikert against the Byzantine Empire in the year 1071.It was heavily weakened in the Battle of Köse Dağ in 1243 against the Mongols but lasted until the end of the thirteenth century. The history of this sultanate which survived many wars, the Crusades and the Mongol invasion is analyzed through their epigraphy with regard to the influence of political and cultural shifts. The identity of the sultanate and its sultans is examined with the use of their titles in their monumental inscriptions with an emphasis on the use of the language and vocabulary, and with the purpose of assessing their strength during different periods of their realm. -

International Journal of Human Sciences ISSN:2458-9489 Volume 17 Issue 1 Year: 2020 The conservation and restoration performances under Seljuk Architectural Patronage Tülay Karadayı Yenice1 Abstract The aim of this study is to expose the similarities between the restoration, conservation, and also reparation works focused on the monumental and public building under the Architectural Patronage of Seljuk Sultans in Anatolia. Reparations and present restoration approach through the protection – reparation examples they made in their periods. The research method is based on a comparative analysis of the approaches followed in the restoration and restoration of monumental structures built by previous civilizations in the territories dominated by the Seljuk state of Anatolia. In the scope of the study Aspendos Theatre, Aksaray Sultan Caravanserai and Sultan Alaaddin Bridge will be taken up it will be tried to understand the principles in the restoration efforts of the Anatolian Seljuks and light the way for the present restoration studies with the achieved accumulation and experience. As a result of the research, the findings indicate that the modern Seljuk state era has been applied to the repair-conservation of monumental monuments very close to the contemporary principles of contemporary restoration. Introduction Conservation phenomenon – a historical house, a monument, a city or a cultural landscape– they produce complex network of meanings and their symbolic strength contributes to their recognition as relevant cultural properties. Contemporary approaches to conservation consider that cultural heritage is preserved not because of the values, functions or meanings they had in the past, but for the messages and symbolism they communicate in the present time and for the future generations (Pereira, 2007).
