Contributions in any of the major scholarly languages of the world, including romanized modern standard Mandarin and Japanese, are acceptable. In special circumstances, papers written in one of the Sinitic topolects (fangyan) may be considered for publication. Although the chief focus of Sino-Platonic Papers is on the intercultural relations of China with other peoples, challenging and creative studies on a wide variety of philological subjects will be entertained. This series is not the place for safe, sober, and stodgy presentations. Sino-Platonic Papers prefers lively work that, while taking reasonable risks to advance the field, capitalizes on brilliant new insights into the development of civilization. Submissions are regularly sent out for peer review, and extensive editorial suggestions for revision may be offered. Sino-Platonic Papers emphasizes substance over form. Hayatın başlangıcı yada evrimin işleyişi konusunda yapılan tartışmalarda çok kullanılan bir kelime de "raslantı"dır. Ancak bilim raslantılarla ilgilenmez . Bu konuyu sağlıklı bir şekilde anlayabilmek için önce "raslantı" kelimesine bakmalıyız. Doğada hiçbirşey raslantı eseri değildir. Evrende ceryan eden her olay, kuralları kesin kanunlara ve alternatifsiz olgulara bağlıdır. "Raslantı", henüz işleyişini tam olarak analiz edemediğimiz ve kurallarını açıkça ortaya koyamadığımız hareketlerde kullanılan bir "joker" kelimedir. Bir atom zerresinin en ufak bir hareketi bile "kesin" kurallara bağlıdır ve bu kuralların dışına çıkmaz. Bu bağlamda canlılığın oluşumu ve evrim de hiçbir şekilde raslantı ile ilgili değildir ve şartlar uygun olduğunda bir <U>zorunluluktur</U>. This, and his musicianship, would be enough to explain Linos' pres- ence on Mount Helikon. See MUSES (THESPIAI). [LINOS (THE~ES)3 Pausanias 9.29.8-9 The Thebans told Pausanias that Linos' bones had been removed from Thebes by Philip after Chaironeia and lat r returned by him, both actions resulting from dreams. All traces of the tomb had disappeared. This story is not to be taken seriously it depends on the literary tradition of Linos as the unfortunate mus c teacher of Herakles'. There is no evidence for a cult. Hesiod, fr. 305 M-IJ. (Schol. T Homer, IZiad 18.570). See also Lobon of Argos, fr. 305 Lloyd-Jones and Parsons (Diogenes Laertios, Prooim. 1.4; Anth. Palat. 7.616). Chinese Zodiac Charlee Raddish Green Intermediate School 1. I will be able to teach 6 th grade students how to the Chinese Zodiac is structured mathematically in my math intervention classes. These are students who struggle to succeed in math and need remediation. Most students are in my classroom for 45 minutes daily. For this TIP I will share this lesson with the all the 6 th grade math teachers, since this lesson meets a 6 th grade indicator. I will also collaborate with the Reading Intervention teacher and have her create a Venn Diagram, comparing and contrasting the information on the Zodiacs. 2. The Chinese Zodiac represents a cyclical concept of time, rather than the Western linear concept of time. The Chinese Zodiac, or Chinese animal signs, is based on 60-year cycles consisting of 5 cycles of the 12 zodiac animals. When these cycles began is not exactly clear, but the 12 groups of animals had appeared during the Warring States Period and the Han Dynasty commonly recognized the identity of the animals. 3. There are several purposes of this lesson. First is to show 6 th grade students how mathematics is the used in the Chinese Zodiac system. Second is to compare the Chinese Zodiac to the zodiac signs we use in the United States. Finally allow students to see how the Chinese system works, find their symbol, and tell what it means. David W. Pankenier* Abstract This article examines the question whether aspects of Babylonian astral divination were transmitted to East Asia in the ancient period. An often-cited study by the Assyriologist Carl Bezold claimed to discern significant Mesopotamian influence on early Chinese astronomy and astrology. This study has been cited as authoritative ever since, includ- ing by Joseph Needham, although it has never been subjected to careful scrutiny. It is important for students to realize the differences between Western astrology and the Chinese zodiac, as in Western astrology, it is a constellation determined by when people’s birthday falls on the calendar; however, in Chinese zodiac, it is the Shu Xiang.
