It was inevitable, then, that 2010 would be an important year for scholarship on the Japanese colonisation of Korea. In response to this momentous anniversary, Cipango – Cahiers d’études japonaises launched a call for papers on the subject of Japan’s colonial past in the spring of 2009. 2 Why colonisation in general and not specifically relating to Korea? Because it seemed logical to the journal’s editors that Korea would be the focus of increased attention from specialists of East Asia, at the risk of potentially forgetting the longer—and more obscure—timeline of the colonisation process.

    The Changing Structure of the Global Large Civil Aircraft Industry and Market: Implications for the Competitiveness of the U.S

    ABSTRACT On September 23, 1997, at the request of the House Committee on Ways and Means (Committee),1 the United States International Trade Commission (Commission) instituted investigation No. 332-384, The Changing Structure of the Global Large Civil Aircraft Industry and Market: Implications for the Competitiveness of the U.S. Industry, under section 332(g) of the Tariff Act of 1930, for the purpose of exploring recent developments in the global large civil aircraft (LCA) industry and market. As requested by the Committee, the Commission’s report on the investigation is similar in scope to the report submitted to the Senate Committee on Finance by the Commission in August 1993, initiated under section 332(g) of the Tariff Act of 1930 (USITC inv. No. 332-332, Global Competitiveness of U.S. Advanced-Technology Manufacturing Industries: Large Civil Aircraft, Publication 2667) and includes the following information: C A description of changes in the structure of the global LCA industry, including the Boeing-McDonnell Douglas merger, the restructuring of Airbus Industrie, the emergence of Russian producers, and the possibility of Asian parts suppliers forming consortia to manufacture complete airframes; C A description of developments in the global market for aircraft, including the emergence of regional jet aircraft and proposed jumbo jets, and issues involving Open Skies and free flight; C A description of the implementation and status of the 1992 U.S.-EU Large Civil Aircraft Agreement; C A description of other significant developments that affect the competitiveness of the U.S. LCA industry; and C An analysis of the aforementioned structural changes in the LCA industry and market to assess the impact of these changes on the competitiveness of the U.S.

Construction of the office building began in early 2005 and was completed in 2009 with the installation of some remaining cladding panels at the top of the tower. The building topped out at 360 m (1,180 ft) in 2008, becoming the third-tallest building in Dubai, after Emirates Park Towers and Burj Khalifa. Almas Tower has 74 floors, 70 of which are commercial alongside four service floors. The tower is located on its own artificial island in the centre of the Jumeirah Lakes Towers Free Zone scheme, the tallest of all the buildings on the development when completed. It was designed by Atkins Middle East, who designed most of the JLT Free Zone complex. The tower is being constructed by the Taisei Corporation of Japan in a joint venture with ACC (Arabian Construction Co.) who were awarded the contract by Nakheel Properties on 16 July 2005.[2] Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), the owner of the tower, was the first to move in.

NATO’s engagement serves two vital purposes for Ukraine. The future development of the integration depends on Ukraine’s correspondence to the standards of NATO membership, on the determination of its political leadership, and on an effective mobilisation of public opinion on NATO membership. This report shows that Ukraine has made progress in reaching the standards for NATO membership, especially in the spheres of military contribution and interoperability. However the absence of national consensus and lack of political will and strategic management of the government hamper any effective implementation of Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration. It is also crucial to neutralise Russia’s influence, which seriously hampers Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic course. Leading representati- ves of the current leadership, especially Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych and his Party of Regions of Ukraine, prefer for the moment continued stable relations with Russia rather than NATO mem- ? bership.
