BERGENPAC.ORG My Fellow Supporters of the Arts 2018-2019 BERGENPAC.ORG My Fellow Supporters of the Arts, The dog days of summer may be over, but things are heating up here at The Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC) as we share with you our 2018–2019 lineup. From legends with decades of excellence under their belts to stars still on the rise, there is something for everyone. I know you want to check out who is coming to the stage, but I want to quickly tell you about our Mission as a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that strives to make the live performing arts and arts education accessible to everyone in our diverse community. September is an exciting time because school is back in session. The Performing Arts School (“PAS”) at bergenPAC, located down the block from the theater at 1 Depot Square, provides 1,300 students ages 3 to adult with introductory- through preprofessional-level classes in music, dance and theatre. Our chorus ensemble also performs on stage with headliners. In keeping with our Mission, scholarships are available so that no child is ever turned away because of financial hardship. As schools across the state face budget constraints, beyond bergenPAC, our outreach arm, brings arts education to 124 schools in 79 districts throughout 8 counties. We reached a total of 14,086 students last year with in-school residencies, workshops and assemblies, as well as trips to bergenPAC for our School Time Series. This was the first time many of these students experienced a live professional performance. Our Arts Access program is lauded by many as the best of its kind in the country. We partner with local organizations that serve segments of the community that would not otherwise be able to attend shows, and we give away up to 200 free tickets to every performance. Arts Access saw spectacular growth in the past year as we gave out approximately 12,000 tickets. It is with great pride that I thank our supporters for making this extraordinary program possible. We are extremely grateful to our board, staff, sponsors, members and of course, the nearly 1,300,000 patrons who have embraced the spirit of bergenPAC as their own. Your support in keeping bergenPAC as northern New Jersey’s leading nonprofit performing arts and education institution means so much. Stay tuned because we have an exciting announcement coming later this year. But for now, take a look at our upcoming performances, and I hope to see you around the theater. Sincerely, Dominic Roncace President & CEO FOR TICKETS, CALL 201.227.1030 OR VISIT BERGENPAC.ORG DECEMBER ON THE TAUB STAGE: 1 1pm & 4:30pm New Jersey Ballet’s Nutcracker 2 1pm & 4:30pm New Jersey Ballet’s Nutcracker Brian Wilson: The Christmas Album Live with special guests 4 7:30pm Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin; Benzel-Busch Concert Series 2018 5 8:00pm David Crosby & Friends SEPTEMBER 7 8:00pm Kenny G – The Miracles Holiday and Hits Tour 14 7:30pm Randy Rainbow Live! 8 7:00pm Holiday Doo-Wop Extravaganza Celebrity Housewives Live; featuring Teresa Giudice, 15 8:00pm 9 2:00pm The Laurie Berkner Band Dorinda Medley, Carole Radziwill & Kelly Dodd 13 8:00pm The Vienna Boys Choir: Christmas in Vienna 22 8:00pm Grupo Niche 15 3pm & 8pm A Christmas Carol The Musical presented by bergenPAC 26 8:00pm DHOAD Gypsies of Rajasthan presented with Dr. Hetal Gor 16 1pm & 4:30pm A Christmas Carol The Musical presented by bergenPAC 28 8:00pm The Naked Magicians 29 8:00pm Sal “The Voice” Valentinetti OCTOBER 2019 JANUARY 2 8:00pm Lord of the Dance: Dangerous Games New Jersey Symphony Orchestra presents 10 7:30pm 3 8:00pm Anka Sings Sinatra – His Songs, My Songs, My Way Emmanuel Ax & Xian Zhang Winter Festival: Music Speaks 4 8:00pm Chris Botti 12 8:00pm The Gong Show Off Broadway 6 8:00pm Kashmir: The Live Led Zeppelin Show 17 7:00pm American Girl Live: An All-New Musical 19 1pm & 3pm Kidz Cabaret Series: Bubble Trouble 9 8:00pm The Indigo Girls Benzel-Busch Concert Series 19 8:00pm The Capitol Steps: Make America Grin Again 10 8:00pm Paula Abdul: STRAIGHT UP PAULA! 20 7:30pm Tyler Henry: The Hollywood Medium New Jersey Symphony Orchestra presents 11 7:30pm Seong-Jin Cho plays Chopin 27 1pm & 4pm Pinkalicious The Muscial 12 8:00pm Engelbert Humperdinck – The Man I Want To Be Tour FEBRUARY 13 8:00pm The Greatest Love of All: The Whitney Houston Show 2 1pm & 3pm Kidz Cabaret Series: The Pop Ups 2 8:00pm The Midtown Men 14 7:00pm Three Dog Night 6 7:30pm National Ballet Theater of Odessa presents Swan Lake 15 7:30pm So You Think You Can Dance Live 7 8:00pm Havana Cuba All-Stars: Asere Tour 16 8:00pm Music of Cream – 50th Anniversary Tour 8 8:00pm Masters of Illusion Live! • Young Valley-Girl Scores 2Nd Place in Paula Abdul's “Live to Dance”
Young Valley-Girl Scores 2nd Place in Paula Abdul’s “Live to Dance” Written by Nadine Toren Television personality and AZfoothills.com columnist Nadine Toren is scouring the area, finding savvy Valley features, bringing readers “on the scene.” Every day she’ll introduce you to celebrities, athletes, and give you an inside look into local events and hot spots. She'll touch on topical issues, and keep AZ fans posted on all the big talkers around town. At her age, I rocked out to Paula’s “Straight Up,” and knew every word to “Cold-Hearted Snake.” In fact, Abdul’s “Shut up and Dance” cassette was the first tape I ever bought with my allowance. But to 11-year-old Kendall Glover, Paula Abdul is the former “American Idol” judge that gave her a shot at stardom. “I was very nervous because all eyes were on me out there,” said Kendall Glover. All eyes were on Ahwatukee’s little lady as she made it through round after round in Paula Abdul’s hit CBS reality show, “Live to Dance.” The Valley girl recently scored second place in the competition, strutting her stuff as a solo performer. “I danced jazz, funk, and contemporary,” said Glover. Glover discovered the open-call for auditions surfing the web a while back, only dreaming she‘d make it this far. But week after week, America voted, and the tiny dancer kept wowing crowds. She danced her sweet little heart out in front of lights and a live audience, as people from all over the country tuned into the tube, watching as Glover flaunted her talent.

Periódico # 17 Marzo 2018 ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………… NEW TECHNOLOGIES IN EDUCATION Nowadays in our society, new technologies are an important aspect to consider in the academic world because it is true that we live in the society of technological changes. But, is using new technologies in education and advantage or a disadvantage? By Leticia Jiménez Some teachers argue that using new technologies in education is affecting young people´s concentration span, but I´m not convinced because new technologies bring us some benefits. For example, it helps motivate students, since it is more dynamic and entertaining. What is more, it offers us distance learning thanks to the Internet. In addition to this, distance learning offers opportunities to those who cannot attend class regularly. Fortunately, there has been a huge increase in the use of new technologies. Personally, I prefer face-to-face education but distance learning is a good alternative if you want to study in your free time. True, it is a different kind of education, but we should see it as a complement to face-to-face education. So, what is the answer? I am sure that new technologies are good in the academic world and they have some advantages, if and when we make good use of them. The riddle of axing time wasting All of us live in a hurry. Our way of life requires paying attention to a lot of things: job, family, friends, gym... So, time management has become 'El Dorado'. By Pedro Padilla We cannot avoid 21st century obligations, but at least we are able to manage our time better, for instance, in the workplace.

Celtic Woman is a female vocal ensemble that performs a mix of Celtic, new age, and adult contemporary music. Often compared to such artists as Clannad, Enya, and Loreena McKennitt, Celtic Woman first rose to acclaim with an energetic stage show that shared much in common with similarly minded productions like Riverdance (whose music director, David Downes, was the driving force behind Celtic Woman's formation in 2004). The group's first performance was filmed by PBS in 2004 and broadcast one year later, accompanied by a wildly popular CD and DVD. Although intended to be the group's only release, the album climbed to the top of the Billboard World Albums chart and stayed there for a record- setting 81 weeks, thus setting the stage for Celtic Woman's long career.
