Celtic Woman is a female vocal ensemble that performs a mix of Celtic, new age, and adult contemporary music. Often compared to such artists as Clannad, Enya, and Loreena McKennitt, Celtic Woman first rose to acclaim with an energetic stage show that shared much in common with similarly minded productions like Riverdance (whose music director, David Downes, was the driving force behind Celtic Woman's formation in 2004). The group's first performance was filmed by PBS in 2004 and broadcast one year later, accompanied by a wildly popular CD and DVD. Although intended to be the group's only release, the album climbed to the top of the Billboard World Albums chart and stayed there for a record- setting 81 weeks, thus setting the stage for Celtic Woman's long career. Celtic Woman began touring heavily, sometimes logging as many as 35 weeks a year on the road. While a series of PBS specials ensured that the ladies remained on America's TV screens, additional album releases helped them remain on the charts. The holiday-themed A Christmas Celebration appeared in 2006, with A New Journey following in 2007. Both albums topped the World Albums chart, and A New Journey even achieved some crossover success by peaking at number four on the Billboard 200. Meanwhile, several members of Celtic Woman's shifting lineup also delivered their own solo albums. Released in 2008, The Greatest Journey combined material from Celtic Woman's older albums with several new songs. It was followed two years later by Songs from the Heart, which found the group mixing some contemporary covers into its repertoire. In 2011, Celtic Woman delivered the fittingly titled Lullaby, which featured restful songs, including versions of "Over the Rainbow," "When You Wish Upon a Star," and the traditional folk song "Hush Little Baby." A year later, they delivered Believe, which was the first release to feature new member Lisa Lambe. Lambe also appeared on 2014's Emerald: Musical Gems, after which she left the group to focus on her solo work. In 2015, Celtic Woman returned with Destiny, their first outing to feature newest members Máiréad Carlin and Éabha McMahon. Well received, the album debuted at number one on the Billboard World Albums chart. The following year, they returned with Voices of Angels, which also showcased Carlin and McMahon, as well as Susan McFadden, fiddler Tara McNeill, and former member Méav Ní Mhaolchatha, who returned as a featured guest. Voices of Angels was the group's tenth consecutive album to debut at number one on the World Albums chart.     2018-2019 BERGENPAC.ORG My Fellow Supporters of the Arts, The dog days of summer may be over, but things are heating up here at The Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC) as we share with you our 2018–2019 lineup. From legends with decades of excellence under their belts to stars still on the rise, there is something for everyone. I know you want to check out who is coming to the stage, but I want to quickly tell you about our Mission as a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that strives to make the live performing arts and arts education accessible to everyone in our diverse community. September is an exciting time because school is back in session. The Performing Arts School (“PAS”) at bergenPAC, located down the block from the theater at 1 Depot Square, provides 1,300 students ages 3 to adult with introductory- through preprofessional-level classes in music, dance and theatre. Our chorus ensemble also performs on stage with headliners. In keeping with our Mission, scholarships are available so that no child is ever turned away because of financial hardship. As schools across the state face budget constraints, beyond bergenPAC, our outreach arm, brings arts education to 124 schools in 79 districts throughout 8 counties. We reached a total of 14,086 students last year with in-school residencies, workshops and assemblies, as well as trips to bergenPAC for our School Time Series. This was the first time many of these students experienced a live professional performance. Our Arts Access program is lauded by many as the best of its kind in the country.

After listening to over 150 new Christmas CDs for my annual roundup, I’ve decided I’m just as nuts as people who got in line in the wee hours for a PS3. A cure has not been found, so here I go again. CHORAL What’s your size? Christmas chorus, I mean. Mixed or same sex? Young or old? There’s something good for every one, beginning with four California groups. The oversize box that won’t fit under the tree holds Orange County’s huge Pacific Chorale , accompanied by brass and organ on “Christmas Time Is Here” . They generall y produce a big, glorious sound in the tradition of Robert Shaw, but are quite capable even in the quiet glow of Sandstrom’s “Lo, how a rose.” Up in San Jose, The Choral Project’s “Winter” offer the most unu sual program, beginning with Argento’s “Gloria” and including such gems as Whitacre’s “Winter” (featuring a sitar!), both Part’s and Rachmaninoff’s “Bogoroditse Djevo”, and Maddux’s wonderfully wacky “Christmas Goes Classical.” Just a few miles further north we find the 22 voice San Francisco Choral Artists , whose “So Gracious Is The Time” is my top choral pick of the season.
