Alex McKinnon Inspirational Former Rugby League Player Alex McKinnon is proving to the world that it’s possible to reinvent and achieve quality of life – both personally and professionally – following a devastating, life- changing injury. A promising professional rugby player, with 49 NRL games experience, Alex was just 22 when he suffered a spinal cord injury from a lifting tackle while playing for the Newcastle Knights in Melbourne. Now on the road to recovery, Alex is available for meet and greets and is passionate about change management, leadership and helping others achieve their best. More about Alex McKinnon: Alex McKinnon grew up in Aberdeen, New South Wales. He left his home town at the age of 14 to attend St Gregory’s College Campbelltown with a dream of playing professional Rugby League. Alex was selected in every New South Wales and Australian representative team throughout his junior years, which culminated in his selection as captain of the Australian Junior Kangaroos in 2012. Following his spinal injury in 2014, Alex was classified as a quadriplegic and endured an extended period in Intensive Care and hospital. Confronted by the inability to walk, use his hands, or perform normal daily activities, he was suddenly facing unimaginable challenges. With the world watching, Alex made a commitment to break the ‘why me?’ mentality and make the most of his situation. Now focusing on rehab, education and reinventing himself, Alex continually challenges himself to get out of his comfort zone, resist being governed by the uncontrollable and is motivated to be the best he can possibly be. MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Welcome to the fi nal edition of the bulletin for 2019 and a celebration of another fabulous year of outstanding achievements at Erindale College. There have been many successes accomplished by our students and staff this year, and we have an opportunity to refl ect and celebrate the extraordinary talents of those in our incredible community. It is also an important time to recognise and value the contribution of those ‘behind the scenes’ without whom, these talents can not be realised. We know that behind every high achiever is a crew of invaluable supporters and believers – you too deserve recognition. Thank you. I would also like to thank each and every one of you for welcoming me so warmly into the college this year. It has been an absolute privilege to work with such a talented and inspiring cohort of young people, and the staff that continue to off er their unwavering support to assist in the achievement of the goals and dreams of the students they educate. As we close out the academic year with a series of celebrations and ceremonies, I bid farewell to our 2019 graduates and extend a warm welcome to our incoming students and their families that will be joining us for the fi rst time in 2020, and welcome back to those families who have been with us before. We are currently experiencing a period of enrolment growth at EC and have some very exciting initiatives commencing next year. We can’t wait to share these with you once students return.

We produce this report each year as our contribution to the history and record keeping of the Club and the Sea Eagles. The MWRLFC in its current and previous form (the Manly-Warringah District Rugby League Football Club) has produced an Annual Report every year since 1947. By producing this report, we do not purport to represent ourselves as the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles Limited (MWSE Ltd) which is a separate legal entity administering and funding the Team. We sincerely thank the current private owners of the Sea Eagles - the Penn family, Andrew Michael and Gary Wolman - who continue to financially support the Sea Eagles. What should not be forgotten or ignored however is that the MWRLFC is also a minority owner of the MWSE Ltd. That means that MWRLFC members also have an ownership stake in the MWSE Ltd, the Sea Eagles. The MWRLFC holds the Preference Share in the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles Ltd which gives our members, through their right to vote, determination over the Team’s name, colours and its home ground, as well as two voting positions on the MWSE Ltd Board which has seven members. That’s why it’s important that the MWRLFC remains a strong voice for our members. Our aim this year was to grow our membership, which we did successfully, through the specially designed, individually numbered MWRLFC membership cap.
