This Week in the Office of Senator

On Thursday, I joined Congresswoman Jenniffer González-Colón (R-PR) on an official visit to San Juan, . We met with members of the U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Juan to receive an update on ongoing counternarcotic efforts and recovery efforts following Hurricanes Irma and Maria. We also visited a small business, Papos Guacaros Place, in the municipality of Dorado. To conclude our visit we met with Cuban and Venezuelan nationals who are currently living in Puerto Rico. El jueves, junto a la congresista Jenniffer González-Colón (R-PR), realizamos una visita oficial a San Juan, Puerto Rico. Nos reunimos con miembros de la Guarida Costera de los Estados Unidos Sector San Juan para recibir una actualización de los esfuerzos antinarcóticos y sobre el estado de recuperación tras los huracanes Irma y María. También visitamos una pequeña empresa local, Papos Guacaros Place, en la municipalidad de Dorado. On Thursday, my staff was recognized by the Congressional Management Foundation (CMF) as a national leader in constituent services and a winner for the 2019 Democracy Awards. My highest priority is to ensure we are available to help Floridians with any federal assistance they need. Read more here.

On Thursday, I wrote an op-ed for the New York Post highlighting the threat state- directed Chinese companies pose to our nation’s . Allowing them to intertwine high-tech transit technology within the core locations of our nation’s financial and political systems, like New York City and D.C., should raise serious red flags. On Wednesday, Senator (R-FL) and I sent a letter to Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross urging the department to fulfill ’s request for a federal fishery resource disaster declaration as a result of significant red tide events off Florida’s coast. Read more here.
