June 14th – Author Series: Seeking Peace in El Salvador (Washington, DC) Diana Villiers Negroponte, author and Brookings Institution Nonresident Senior Fellow, will speak on her new book at a program hosted by WFPG Board Member Henrietta Fore and Mr. & Mrs. Maurice Tobin.

th June 25 – Celebrating Women Leaders Luncheon (Washington, DC) Lael Brainard, Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs, will speak on “International Financial Diplomacy” at a Women Shaping the Global Economy Luncheon. Chrystia Freeland, Editor at Thomson Reuters, will moderate the discussion at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.

Celebrating Women Leaders Luncheon – Hon. Michelle Bachelet, Executive Director of UN Women, addressed WFPG at a luncheon on “Women’s Empowerment in the Middle East and World Wide.” PBS NewsHour Co-Anchor and Senior Correspondent moderated the program. (April 20 – Washington, DC)

The Impact and Value of Investing in Female Entrepreneurs was a luncheon featuring Dina Habib Powell, President of the Goldman Sachs Foundation. The discussion was moderated by ABC News Reporter and co-author of Womenomics, Claire Shipman. (April 30 – Washington, DC)

US Policy Towards Syria and Iran – Congresswoman Jane Harman, President, Director, and CEO of the Woodrow Wilson Center, spoke at the Cosmos Club in a discussion moderated by David Sanger, the Chief Washington Correspondent for . (May 14 – Washington, DC)

Challenges and Opportunities in US – Russian Relations – Celeste Wallander, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia Policy, addressed WFPG at a luncheon moderated by CNN Foreign Affairs Correspondent Jill Dougherty. (April 4 – Washington, DC)

Iran: What Options are Left for the US? Speaker Barbara Slavin, an Atlantic Council Senior Fellow, addressed WFPG at a reception and program. (February 29 – Washington, DC)

The US and Egypt: Between Islamists and Generals featured a discussion with Michele Dunne, Director of the Rafik Hariri Center for the Middle East at the Atlantic Council, on the latest developments on the Arab Spring movement in Egypt. (January 20 – Washington, DC)

Burma: Political Reforms and the Impacts on Humanitarian Efforts was a brown-bag luncheon featuring a briefing by Lynn Yoshikawa of Refugees International. The program was held at FHI 360. (January 13 – Washington, DC)

Embassy Series:

Annual DC Celebration of Women Diplomats honored women diplomats in DC, including Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues Melanne Verveer and the Ambassadors to the US from Bahrain, Bulgaria, Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Estonia, Finland, Liechtenstein, the Netherlands, Senegal, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The program was hosted by Ambassador Claudia Fritsche of Liechtenstein at her Residence. (June 7 – Washington, DC)

Annual NY Celebration of Women Diplomats highlighted the achievements of women diplomats. Honored guests included the Ambassadors to the UN from the Czech Republic and Monaco, as well as the Consuls General of Slovenia and the Bahamas. The program was hosted by WFPG member Geraldine Kunstadter. (May 3 – New York, NY)

The European Union: Present Challenges with Ambassador Ritva Koukku-Ronde was held at the Embassy of Finland and moderated by Washington Post International Economics Correspondent, Howard Schneider. (March 27 – Washington, DC)

Author Series:

Author Ann Lee of Demos spoke with the WFPG on her new book, What the US Can Learn from China. The event was covered by C-SPAN BookTV. (January 27 – New York, NY)

Mentoring Activities:

Annual DC Mentoring Fair, co-sponsored by The George Washington University Career Center, was attended by over 175 young professionals and students from universities across the region, including George Washington, Georgetown, American, Maryland, William and Mary, and Johns Hopkins. (February 6 – Washington, DC)

Annual NY Mentoring Fair, co-sponsored by NYU’s Wasserman Center for Career Development and NYU’s Wagner School of Public Affairs, was attended by over 180 students and young professionals from NYU, Columbia, University of Pennsylvania, and The New School. (February 22 – New York, NY)
