PRESS KITS Round of 32 Thursday, 24 February 2005 - 17:00 (local time) Meteor - Dnepropetrovsk FC DNIPRO DNIPROPETROVSK FK PARTIZAN MATCH OFFICIALS Referee Helmut Fleischer (GER) Assistant referees Christian Schräer (GER), Jan-Hendrik Salver (GER) Fourth official Uwe Kemmling (GER) UEFA delegate Jan Damgaard (DEN) MATCH BACKGROUND Dnipro prepare to deny Partizan FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk twice came from behind to deny FK Partizan in Belgrade after the 21-year-old Nigerian striker Obiora Odita had twice given the home side the lead on his European debut. The Ukrainian side fought back with goals from Serhiy Nazarenko in the first half and Andriy Rusol after 57 minutes to wrest the initiative for the return leg. Although neither side won their championship last season, they both did just that in 1983, when the countries, and leagues, were larger. Partizan won the old Yugoslavian league by two points from NK Dinamo Zagreb (now of Croatia), while Dnipro were convincing champions of the former Soviet Supreme League, establishing a four-point advantage over FC Spartak Moskva. The changing boundaries of the old continent mean previous meetings between clubs from Serbo- Montenegrin and Ukrainian are rare. Partizan did lose 5-0 on aggregate to FC Dynamo Kyiv in the first round of the 1976/77 European Champion Clubs' Cup, however. Dynamo, Soviet league regulars alongside Dnipro in those days, won 3-0 in Kiev with current Ukraine coach Oleh Blokhin adding the final goal in the 88th minute. Dynamo confirmed their superiority with a 2-0 win in the return leg in Belgrade, thanks to goals from Vladimir Muntyan and Piotr Slobodian. Dnipro have not previously met Serbian opposition, but did tackle HNK Hajduk Split when the Croatian champions played alongside FK Partizan in Yugoslavia. Dnipro lost both legs in the third round of the 1985/86 UEFA Cup: 1-0 at home to a Sergey Pushkin own goal, and 2-0 in Split where international striker Ivan Gudelj scored both goals in the second half. 1/7 10:30:05 uefa.com Round of 32 - Thursday, 24 February 2005 - PRESS KITS DNIPRO-PARTIZAN PLAYERS PROFILES FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk Goalkeepers No Name Nat. FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk v FK Partizan Winter breaks continue to starve both Dnipro and Partizan of domestic action following last week's pulsating 2-2 draw in Belgrade. But Partizan, whose coach Vladimir Vermezovic will recall Cameroon's Pierre Boya following suspension, have been training indoors over the weekend due to the cold weather in Eastern Europe. Nenad Brnovic is suspended but Korean Chiwoo Kim is fit again and captain Saša Ilic will also play after having the eight stitches in his head following last week's clash of heads with Dnipro's Andriy Rusol removed prematurely. Key Dnipro forward Oleh Venhlinskyy has been sidelined with a cold and is still doubtful for the visit of Partizan but Nigerian striker Obiora Odita, who scored twice on his European debut in Belgrade, is sure to feature. 4/7 10:30:05 uefa.com Round of 32 - Thursday, 24 February 2005 - PRESS KITS DNIPRO-PARTIZAN DOMESTIC LEAGUE DETAILS FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk (Premier Division) Results Standings Date Match Res R Clubs Pld W D L GF GA Pts 30.10.04 Vorskla - Dnipro 0 - 0 1 Shakhtar 15 13 0 2 31 8 39 07.11.04 Dnipro - Borysfen 0 - 0 2 Dynamo Kyiv 15 12 2 1 33 7 38 11.11.04 Zaporizhya - Dnipro 1 - 1 3 Metalurh 15 10 2 3 24 15 32 28.11.04 Dnipro - Arsenal 1 - 0 4 Volyn 15 7 4 4 19 17 25 05.12.04 Obolon - Dnipro 0 - 1 5 Chornomorets 15 7 2 6 15 12 23 6 Dnipro 15 6 5 4 18 18 23 7 Metalist 15 6 2 7 17 21 20 Fixtures 8 Arsenal 15 5 5 5 17 20 20 Date Match 9 Illichivets 15 5 5 5 24 22 20 01.03.05 Dnipro - Obolon 10 Kryvbas 15 4 6 5 12 15 18 06.03.05 Arsenal - Dnipro 11 Tavriya 15 4 3 8 11 17 18 13.03.05 Dnipro - Zaporizhya 12 Zaporizhya 15 2 8 5 10 17 14 20.03.05 Borysfen - Dnipro 13 Vorskla 15 3 3 9 7 17 12 03.04.05 Dnipro - Vorskla 14 Obolon 15 2 5 8 8 21 11 15 Zakarpattya 15 2 5 7 11 18 11 16 Borysfen 15 0 7 8 6 18 7 FK Partizan (First League) Results Standings Date Match Res R Clubs Pld W D L GF GA Pts 30.10.04 Partizan - Vojvodina 1 - 0 1 Partizan 15 13 2 0 39 8 41 07.11.04 Zemun - Partizan 0 - 5 2 Crvena Zvezda 15 12 2 1 38 11 38 20.11.04 Partizan - Zeta 3 - 2 3 Zeta 15 11 1 3 30 12 34 28.11.04 Hajduk - Partizan 0 - 3 4 OFK 15 8 1 6 22 18 25 05.12.04 Partizan - Cukaricki 3 - 1 5 Buducnost 15 7 2 6 21 20 23 6 Zemun 15 6 4 5 18 19 22 7 Vojvodina 15 5 4 6 18 19 19 8 Sutjeska 15 5 4 6 13 21 19 9 Kula 15 4 6 5 16 18 18 10 Smederevo 15 4 5 6 9 15 17 11 Novi Beograd 15 4 4 7 13 20 16 12 Cukaricki 15 4 4 7 15 18 16 Fixtures 13 Borac 15 4 4 7 12 22 16 Date Match 14 Obilic 15 3 4 8 16 27 13 15 Hajduk 15 1 5 9 11 29 8 16 Železnik 15 1 4 10 12 26 7 5/7 10:30:05 uefa.com Round of 32 - Thursday, 24 February 2005 - PRESS KITS DNIPRO-PARTIZAN REFEREE Helmut Fleischer (GER) Date of birth: 22.03.1964 Referee has never refereed a match between clubs of the countries of the two clubs of this match ALL-TIME STATISTICS Head-to-head record Date Competition Stage Match Res Venue 16.02.2005 UCUP 1/16 Partizan - Dnipro 2-2 Belgrade Overall record FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk Pld: 1, W: 0, D: 1, L: 0, GS: 2, GA: 2 FK Partizan Pld: 1, W: 0, D: 1, L: 0, GS: 2, GA: 2 Home teams record versus clubs from the away teams country Date Competition Stage Match Res Venue 16.02.2005 UCUP 1/16 Partizan - Dnipro 2-2 Belgrade Overall record FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk Pld: 1, W: 0, D: 1, L: 0, GS: 2, GA: 2 Away teams record versus clubs from the home teams country Date Competition Stage Match Res Venue 15.09.1976 UCL R1 Dynamo Kyiv - Partizan 3-0 Kiev 29.09.1976 UCL R1 Partizan - Dynamo Kyiv 0-2 Belgrade 16.02.2005 UCUP 1/16 Partizan - Dnipro 2-2 Belgrade Overall record FK Partizan Pld: 3, W: 0, D: 1, L: 2, GS: 2, GA: 7 6/7 10:30:05 uefa.com Round of 32 - Thursday, 24 February 2005 - PRESS KITS DNIPRO-PARTIZAN RECORD IN EUROPE FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk AP Pld W D L GF GA European Champions Clubs' Cup / UEFA Champions 2 12 5 3 4 15 13 League UEFA Cup Winners' Cup 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 UEFA Cup 9 39 17 9 13 52 41 UEFA Super Cup 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 UEFA Intertoto Cup 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Total 11 51 22 12 17 67 54 FK Partizan AP Pld W D L GF GA European Champions Clubs' Cup / UEFA Champions 12 55 19 12 24 86 83 League UEFA Cup Winners' Cup 2 12 4 1 7 19 21 UEFA Cup 14 59 25 14 20 100 79 UEFA Super Cup 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 UEFA Intertoto Cup 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Total 28 126 48 27 51 205 183 LEGEND European Champions Clubs' Cup / UEFA F: Final(s) ECCC: Champions League GS: Group stage UCWC: UEFA Cup Winners' Cup GS1: First group stage UCUP: UEFA Cup GS2: Second group stage UIC: UEFA Intertoto Cup PR: Preliminary round SCUP: UEFA Super Cup QF: Quarter-finals AP: Appearances QR: Qualifying round DoB: Date of birth QR1: First qualifying round D: Drawn QR2: Second qualifying round GA: Goals against QR3: Third qualifying round GF: Goals for R1: First round L: Lost R2: Second round Pld: Matches played R3: Third round Nat.: Nationality R4: Fourth round No: Number SF: Semi-finals W: Won 7/7 10:30:05 uefa.com.
