Previous meetings • The first leg marked Sheriff's first regulation victory against Dinamo in what was the seventh match between the sides. Dinamo had won four of the previous six, drawing the other two, and scored 11 goals to Sheriff's two before the first leg of this tie. • All three previous ties came in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round in a four-season stretch between 2010 and 2013. • Sheriff did come out on top in their first tie, in 2010/11, winning 6-5 on penalties in Zagreb after two 1-1 draws. • The Croatian club found the going considerably easier when the sides met again in 2012/13, winning 1-0 away and 4-0 at home with substitute Duje Čop scoring Dinamo's third goal in Zagreb. Current club captain Arijan Ademi also featured for Dinamo while Henrique Luvannor was in Sheriff's team for the second leg. • Čop was also on target in Dinamo's 3-0 second-leg win in Tiraspol in 2013/14, completing a 4-0 aggregate victory. Ademi also started both games, as did Luvannor for Sheriff. Form guide Dinamo Zagreb • Dinamo have made seven appearances in the UEFA Champions League group stage, including five in the last ten seasons. • Champions of Croatia for the fourth season in a row in 2020/21 – when they also completed the domestic double – and the 15th time in 16 seasons, Dinamo are aiming to reach the group stage for the first time since 2019/20, their sole appearance in the last four campaigns. • The Zagreb club lost 2-1 at Ferencváros in their one-off tie in last season's third qualifying round, but went on to impress in the UEFA Europa League. Dinamo finished first in their group ahead of Wolfsberg, CSKA Moskva and Feyenoord – conceding only one goal to equal the competition record – before beating Krasnodar in the round of 32 (3-2 a, 1-0 h) and Tottenham in the round of 16 (0-2 a, 3-0 h aet), the latter secured by Mislav Oršić's memorable hat- trick. Their campaign was finally ended in the quarter-finals by Villarreal, the eventual champions winning 1-0 in Croatia and 2-1 in Spain. • Dinamo were unbeaten in their first six fixtures in the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League, beating Iceland's Valur in the first qualifying round (3-2 h, 2-0 a), Omonoia of Cyprus in the second qualifying round (2-0 h, 1-0 a) and Polish side Legia Warszawa in the third (1-1 h, 1-0 a). • Last season's defeat by Villarreal is Dinamo's only reverse in their last ten home European matches (W7 D2). • The Croatian club have finished fourth in their UEFA Champions League section in six of their seven group campaigns, the exception the first, in 1998/99 when they came second behind Olympiacos but ahead of Porto and Ajax – although only Olympiacos progressed to the quarter-finals. • Dinamo have won only five of their 42 matches in the UEFA Champions League group stage (D7 L30) but did pick up five points on their last appearance in 2019/20 (W1 D2 L3), a campaign that included a 4-0 victory at home to Atalanta. • Their ties with Sheriff are Dinamo's only matches against a Moldovan club. • Dinamo have won nine of the 22 UEFA competition ties in which they lost the first away leg, including the most recent when they overcame Tottenham last season. They have lost both ties in which they went down 3-0 in the away first leg, both in the European Cup Winners' Cup – against Fiorentina in the 1960/61 semi-final and Celtic in the 1963/64 second round, winning both second legs 2-1 at home. • Dinamo's record in two UEFA penalty shoot-outs is W1 L1: 5-6 v Sheriff, 2010/11 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round 6-5 v CFR Cluj, 2020/21 UEFA Champions League second qualifying round Sheriff • Should Sheriff, domestic champions for the 19th time – and sixth in succession – in 2020/21, overcome Dinamo, Moldova would become the 34th country to feature in the group stage and the first newcomers since Azerbaijan, 4 GNK Dinamo Zagreb - FC Sheriff Tiraspol Wednesday 25 August 2021 - 21.00CET (21.00 local time) Match press kit Stadion Maksimir, Zagreb with Qarabağ, in 2017/18. • Sheriff are also the only Moldovan side to reach the UEFA Europa League group stage having appeared in 2009/10, 2010/11, 2013/14 and 2017/18. • Sheriff were beaten 5-3 on penalties by Dundalk after a 1-1 home draw in last season's one-off UEFA Europa League third qualifying round tie. They had started the season in the UEFA Champions League, beating Fola Esch of Luxembourg 2-0 at home in the first qualifying round before a 2-1 loss at Qarabağ in the next stage. • The Tiraspol club are now unbeaten in their seven UEFA Champions League qualifying matches this season, winning both legs against both Teuta of Albania in the first qualifying round (4-0 a, 1-0 h) and Alashkert of Armenia in the second (1-0 a, 3-1 h). They were held 1-1 at Serbian side Crvena zvezda – the 1991 European champions – in the first leg of their third qualifying round tie, but Danilo Arboleda's goal at the end of the first half at the Sheriff Stadion proved enough to send the home side through. • This is Sheriff's third UEFA Champions League play-off. They lost to Olympiacos in 2009/10 (0-2 h, 0-1 a) and Basel in 2010/11 (0-1 a, 0-3 h). • Sheriff's record in UEFA Europa League play-offs is W2 L3. • The loss at Qarabağ in last season's UEFA Champions League second qualifying round is Sheriff's only defeat in their last seven away European matches (W4 D2).
