Performance Suggestions

1) This affangement is based on the classic r".or*ng of the song by guitarist/ . Play the recording for your students for ideas on style and improvisation.

2) This is an excellent exercise for the developing improviser. Beginning with measure 53 there are 16 measures of group "scat" soli. This section may be repeated many times to allow for vocal or instrumental improvisation. Also, measures 102-103 may be repeated many times for solo improvisation; improvisation continues in measures 104-105, with the group vocal background added.

3) I would encourage you to add Latin percussion instruments (perhaps played by the singers) as an appropriate background (bongos, congas, shakers, guiro, maracas, claves, etc.).

4) The solos (measures 2l-36,70-85) may be sung by male, female, duet or small group. The soloists should be encouraged to explore their own creativity and style.

5) Have fun and enjoy the challenge!
