Praise & Worship Processional Doxology: “Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow”

The Call to Worship (Please See Monitors for Responses)

The Hymn of Praise A.M.E. Hymnal #256 There Is a Fountain Filled with Blood

There is a fountain filled with blood Drawn from Emmanuel's veins; And sinners, plunged beneath that flood, Lose all their guilty stains: Lose all their guilty stains, Lose all their guilty stains; And sinners, plunged beneath that flood, Lose all their guilty stains.

The dying thief rejoiced to see That fountain in his day; And there may I, though vile as he, Wash all my sins away: Wash all my sins away, Wash all my sins away; And there may I, though vile as he, Wash all my sins away.

Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood Shall never lose its pow'r, Till all the ransomed Church of God Be saved, to sin no more: Be saved, to sin no more, Be saved, to sin no more; Till all the ransomed Church of God, Be saved to sin no more.

E'er since by faith I saw the stream Thy flowing wounds supply, Redeeming love has been my theme, And shall be till I die: And shall be till I die, And shall be till I die; Redeeming love has been my theme, And shall be till I die.

When this poor lisping, stamm'ring tongue Lies silent in the grave, Then in a nobler, sweeter song, I'll sing Thy pow'r to save: I'll sing Thy pow'r to save, I'll sing Thy pow'r to save, then in a nobler, sweeter song, I'll sing Thy pow'r to save. -4-

Scripture Lesson (Please Stand for the Reading of God’s Word)

Responsive Reading Psalm 139 (New International Version) – Created and Cherished by God Leader: You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.

People: Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

Leader: Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

People: If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.

Leader: If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.

People: For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Leader: My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

People: Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Leader: How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand — when I awake, I am still with you.

ALL: Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. -5-

THE SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPER OR HOLY COMMUNION THE SOLICITATION You that do truly and earnestly repent of your sins, and are in love and charity with your neighbor, and intend to lead a new life, following the commandments of God, and walking from henceforth in His holy ways, draw near with faith and take this holy sacrament to your comfort; and make your humble confession to Almighty God, meekly kneeling.

THE GENERAL CONFESSION

Minister: Let us humbly confess our sins unto Almighty God.

Minister and People: Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, Judge of all men, we acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness which we from time to time most grievously have committed by thought, word, and deed against Your divine Majesty, provoking most justly Your wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings; the remembrance of them is grievous unto us. Have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us, most merciful Father for Your Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake; forgive us all that is past, and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please You in newness of life, to the honor and glory of Your name through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen. (Choral). (You may be seated).

THE FIRST COLLECT Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, who of Your great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all them that with hearty repentance and true faith turn unto You, have mercy upon us; pardon and deliver us from all our sins; confirm and strengthen us in all goodness; and bring us to everlasting life through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Choral Response: Amen.

THE SECOND COLLECT Almighty God, unto whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid, cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of Your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love You, and worthily magnify Your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Choral Response: Amen. THE PRAYER OF ADORATION It is very meet, right, and our bounden duty that we shall at all times and in all places give Thanks unto You, O Lord, Holy Father, Almighty, Everlasting God. Therefore, with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify Your Holy Name, evermore praising You and saying Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of hosts; heaven and earth are full of Your glory. Glory be to You, O Lord, most high. Choral Response: Amen. -8-

THE PRAYER OF HUMBLE ACCESS O Merciful Lord, we do not come to Your holy table trusting in our own grace and mercy, but in the greatness of Your mercy. We are not worthy enough to gather up the crumbs under Your table. You are the Lord and Your love has met and always will meet every human need. Grant us humble access to Your love in the sacramental feast of the body and blood of Jesus Christ and wash away our sinful pride, so that, in mercy we may be drawn near to You and to Him, Who with the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and forever.

Choral Response: Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen.

THE CELEBRANT CONSECRATION

Minister: All glory, power and honor to You, Almighty God, Holy Father, Creator of heaven and earth. Who did make us in Your own image. And when we fell into sin, You of Your tender mercy did give Your only begotten Son Jesus Christ, to take our nature upon Him, and to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption: Who made there, by His Own oblation of Himself once offered, a full and perfect sacrifice for the whole world: And instituted and commanded us to continue this perpetual memorial of His precious death until His Coming again.

For in the night in which He was betrayed, He took bread; and when He had given thanks to You, He broke it, and gave it to His disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is My body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way also, after supper, He took the cup; and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them and said, “Drink this, all of you; for this is My blood of the New Covenant, which is poured out for you and many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

Therefore, with this bread and cup we remember the life our Lord offered for us. And, believing the witness of His resurrection, we await His Coming in power to share with us the great and promised feast.

Gracious God, You are holy indeed, the fountain of all holiness. Bless and sanctify these gifts with Your Holy Spirit and bless us to Your service that we may faithfully receive in unity and peace the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

ANNOUNCEMENTS (Continued)

Ash Wednesday A special Ash Wednesday service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2018. Ash Wednesday will also be observed during the Lenten Caravan service on Wednesday evening, February 14, 2018. Ash Wednesday is the first day of 40 (excluding Sundays), leading up to Easter Sunday – the celebration of Jesus's resurrection from the cross. On Ash Wednesday, we come to church to kneel, to pray, and to ask God’s forgiveness, surrounded by other sinners. Human sin is universal; we all do it, not only Christians. Our church tradition sets aside Ash Wednesday as a particular day to address sin and death. We do this mindful that "God hates nothing God has made and forgives the sins of all who are penitent." We are ALL sinners, no better and no worse than our brothers and sisters.

20/20 (5.0) Initiative Kickoff The 20/20 initiative is a Church-wide fundraising project managed by the Stewards. This project is established to assist with our Annual Connectional Budget. Financial gifts donated through the 20/20 initiative are added to our collected conference claims and assist greatly in meeting the first and second half of our Connectional Budgetary obligations. The Steward Board is requesting 150 participants for conference year 2017-2018. The first half of our budget is due in February 2018. In addition to the 18 officers and 5 team captains we are asking 127 people to give 20 dollars per week for 20 weeks in addition to your regular tithes, gifts and offerings. Please mark your envelopes 20/20 and allocate $20.00. Our goal is to raise $60,000. Again, this will satisfy all budgetary needs on the conference level without utilizing any operational funds. Over the next couple of weeks, you will be contacted by one of the team captains seeking your commitment.

Scripture of the Day Human Flaws/Imperfections. “Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.” James 3:2

Quote of the Day “Be happy with being you. Love your flaws. Own your quirks. And know that you are just as perfect as anyone else, exactly as you are.” Ariana Grande

Thought of the Week Have You Looked In the Mirror Lately? “Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.” Psalm 51:3 When is the last time you looked in the mirror? No, not your bathroom mirror; I'm talking about the mirror of God's Word. When's the last time you took a long hard look at yourself in that mirror? When we look into God's Word it shows us our imperfections. It reveals all of our flaws. It shows us these things in great (and often painful) detail. It's like one of those magnifying mirrors where every blemish will show up. It's like a mirror that is surrounded by lots of bright light bulbs. It's not at all flattering. That's why we often would rather not look at ourselves there. Two quick points here: We need to spend more time in front of the mirror. If you don't spend time in the Word, flaws in your character will go undetected. We've got to keep our mirror before us every day. We need to improve the quality of our time before the mirror. Don't jump in front of the mirror and then run away. Don't put down the mirror and forget what needs correction. We're not just reading for information, but for transformation (read James 1:22-25).

Humor of the Week A couple was celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. Their domestic tranquility had long been the talk of the town, and on this special occasion, a local newspaper reporter paid them a visit. He inquired as to the secret of their long and happy marriage. "Well," explained the husband, "it all goes back to our honeymoon. We visited the Grand Canyon and took a trip down to the bottom of the canyon by pack mule." "We hadn't gone too far when my wife's mule stumbled. My wife quietly said 'That's once.' We proceeded a little farther when the mule stumbled again. Once more my wife quietly spoke: 'That's twice.' We hadn't gone a half- mile when the mule stumbled a third time. My wife promptly removed a revolver from her purse, hopped down off the beast, and shot the mule dead." "I started to protest over her treatment of the mule when she looked at me and quietly said, 'That's once.'"
