Fourteenth Sunday After Pentecost September 6, 2020

AS WE GATHER St. Paul’s words in the epistle lesson for this week affirm something fairly easy to understand. Yet, as we look around on this Labor Day weekend, many citizens find his words disturbing, or at least not always applicable. Understanding our place in God’s kingdom will give us a greater appreciation of the distinction between the two realms of God’s rule—or as Martin Luther called them, “the two kingdoms.”

NICENE CREED I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made;

who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both

the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end.

PASTOR WENDORF’S DEVOTION From the beginning I revealed the end….Isaiah 46:10 Spoiler Alert Once I was at a meeting and the leader shouted: “spoiler alert!” What he was about to say was giving away the ending of a movie. If you did not want to know the results, you need to plug your ears. There are times we wished we knew the ending: when will COVID be over, when will I get better, or will I ever get married? In our text we see a wonderful “spoiler alert.” The end is revealed by God. In Isaiah 46:13 we read: “I will provide salvation for Zion.” The message is for us as well: salvation and eternal life is ours through faith in Jesus! No matter how tough or how easy life has become for you, we have confidence in knowing the final outcome. Spoiler alert: Heaven and Salvation is ours! Thank you Lord that we can know with confidence the outcome of our lives because of Jesus salvation is ours.

St. Paul Pack-A-Picnic! On Sunday, September 13 at the 9:30am and 11am service there will be two cars parked out front (near the Prayer Garden) collecting donations for the Saukville Food Pantry. Lutheran Women's Missionary League Mite Box & Meeting: Missions around the world are in need. Public School Confirmation Public School Confirmation begins on Sunday, September 20. We will start the year with virtual classes every 1st, 3rd, and (when we have one) 5th Sunday of the month from 5-6:30pm.
